Do you often ask yourself why you are still strugling with Virus infection even after paying for an Anti-Virus? One of my machine is using a free version of the anti-virus and all is well with it. (I could have use a free version on all my home PC's but because I have "free" paid anti-virus, I use it on the rest of my machines just to proved a point.)
Based on my experience, the number one culprit is an outdated OS. Nope, don't panic yet, dear XP or Vista users. It also happens to Windows 7 as well. Outdated in the sense that you don't have the "updated patch" or the "fix" to Microsoft "vulnerabilities".
Remember those nagging messsages telling you "windows is ready to download and install updates"? Do you click and install it? Or you are one of the majority who just ignore it or closed the nagging prompt. That is a big No No! It is there to fix the vulnerabilities on the Operating System (OS) that those viruses normally exploits. If you don't patch, update or simply put, "fix" your OS, you are more likely to get those nasty virus infection problems.
If you have an up to date (regularly updated) OS, even if you downloaded a virus thru different entry point, (emails, downloads, file sharing, etc) you are more likely to ward off the virus attack as the vulnerability is not there anymore to exploit. You won't have any problems. In layman's term, your PC is "immune".
Next time you see those nagging windows updates, please, please click, download and install it. It will run on the background and it will do its task without you noticing it. It will save you tons of grief, misery and cash. Believed me, I've seen tons of those problems cause by outdated OS.
