Thought I’d introduce myself properly as I’m going to start being a bit more active on here.
I’ve been DJing for around 20 years now, and like a lot of people, that naturally turned into fixing my own gear… then fixing other people’s… and eventually turning into something much bigger.
Alongside that, I spent about 10 years working as an electronics engineer in the steel industry, travelling around the world installing and repairing gauging systems. That gave me a solid foundation in fault finding and working on complex electronics.
After that, I moved into a local audio installation company, where I ended up repairing all of their equipment as well. Even when I moved on to other roles, I kept DJ repairs going on the side.
Eventually I went back into engineering, and at that point Restore Audio properly started taking shape alongside my day job. 2 years went by, and my contract came to an end, so I took the plunge and went full-time with it.
At the start of January 2024, I decided to run a few ads just to see what would happen… and things took off pretty quickly.
The first few months were run out of my basement, but the business outgrew that space fast, so I moved into a dedicated workshop to separate work from home and take things more seriously.
Since then, it’s gone from strength to strength - repairing equipment for DJs and companies all over the UK, as well as buying broken gear, bringing it back properly, and getting it back out there to be used again.
For me, it’s never just been about fixing faults. It’s about restoring equipment so it feels right again, especially with things like Technics where the detail really matters.
Going self-employed after being in full-time work most of my life has definitely been a challenge at times, but it’s been worth it to build something properly.
Still pushing to grow this into one of the go-to repair centres in the UK.
Enough waffling, here's a pic of my latest project - Custom Gloss Black Technics, fully rebuilt with lots of added jazz! Big shout to Pimp My Decks for supplying the black button kits and generally being super helpful!
Always happy to chat anything repairs, Technics, or DJ gear 👍
