“There’s no use crying over spilt milk.”

Accidental liquid spillage on this laptop. Cleaned off with isopropyl alcohol and a trusty electric toothbrush, along with some canned air. This included taking the bottom case off to clean the inside too. Saved from liquid damage.

Top tips for accidental liquid spills on electronics:

⭐️ Liquid damage happens mostly in 2 major ways, soon after and gradual. Soon after is when liquid interferes with circuits and can blow capacitors etc on motherboards, creating short circuits. Gradual is after the spillage is a distant memory, or completely unknown to the user. Liquid sitting on components that dries and stays there can cause corrosion.

⭐️ After an accidental spillage, as soon as possible switch off the device/cut the power. This will preserve the components if they have been hit with liquid. Do not turn on or charge the device until it has been examined and cleaned.

⭐️ Put the device in a warm area such as an airing cupboard to start the drying process if you must wait to have it examined and cleaned

⭐️ Save your rice for eating, do not put devices in rice, it genuinely does nothing

Display and glass replacement on this iPhone 7 Plus as the damage had caused the top of the display to stop responding. Replaced and working perfectly again.

A Nintendo Switch tablet that did not charge and had damaged pins in the charge port. The charge port has been replaced but it is still not charging. We are now moving on to motherboard diagnostics. Measuring the current through the capacitors around the video chip and charge chip proved them to be fine, along with the charge port fuse. Next step, rule out a bad battery. A work in progress.

A repair and restoration on a Gameboy Advance that had its previous batteries discharge and leak inside. It cleaned up beautifully.

Picked up this PS4 Pro and a controller for an absolute bargain. Shuts down regularly due to overheating, so it will be getting a full tear down and refurbishment before it’s new life in my personal collection. If this sneaky peek into the heatsink is anything to go by, this should be a fun refurb.
