When did you last check yours?
It is shocking (no pun intended) just how many ICT / Server cabinets we check that don’t meet the standard, especially when the consequences of not doing it could cripple your business.
As specialists in this sector, we have seen examples of no isolator installed, poor cable management, no emergency power cut off, use of an incorrect main circuit breaker or fuse rating and even no earth busbar, to name a few!
But why?
Often, they are overlooked, seen as specialist equipment, and the person inspecting doesn’t have the experience to handle such an essential part of your business infrastructure. But leaving them is leaving businesses and owners at risk.
And the consequence?
Something relatively simple to rectify can have enormous consequences if they fail, and so many do. Company Duty Holders have to ensure their Network, Server, and Information Communications Technology (ICT) cabinets hold a valid electrical safety certificate, such as an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) or a valid in date Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC). And without this, the building and contents insurance could be invalid. The Duty Holder will be held accountable if an electrical fault in the ICT cabinet cause data loss, serious fire, injury or death.
So what should you have as standard?
Earth Bus Bar installed and connected to the main earth feed
Isolated power supply feeding the cabinet
Hold a valid safety check certificate (maximum of 2 years)
As specialists, we can take that risk away and will:
Electrically inspect and test a cabinet(s) to conform to the latest electrical safety standard and regulations.
Conduct any remedial work so that the ICT cabinet meets the latest electrical safety standard and regulations.
Provide an EICR upon successful completion of the electrical safety test and inspection.
