The finished brand looks effortless. The process? Not so much.

For Koah Studio, there were mood boards that didn’t make the cut, logo ideas that went nowhere, typefaces that almost worked and plenty of moving things around until everything finally started to click.

We started with the strategy, then built the identity from the ground up.

Exploring. Testing. Refining. Reworking.

We explored different directions for the logo and typography, experimented with colour and illustration, and gradually started bringing all the pieces together.

The earthy palette.
The flowing type.
The organic shapes.
The little details that make the whole identity feel unmistakably KOAH.

Because good branding isn’t about finding one nice idea.
It’s about finding the right idea, then knowing when to keep pushing it.

The final identity might look calm.
Getting there involved a lot of decisions.

Here’s a peek behind the scenes of creating Koah Studio 🤎

Case #004: We’ve outgrown our branding.

The evidence is in.

Your business has evolved.
Your service has changed.
Your prices have gone up.
Your customers look different.
Your ambitions are bigger.

But your branding?

Still acting like it’s 2019.

That’s when things start to get awkward.

Because your customers don’t see the business behind the scenes. They see the brand in front of them.

And if your branding is still communicating where you were instead of where you’re going, there’s a mismatch.

The verdict? GUILTY of leaving the branding behind.

And yes, we think your brand is allowed to grow up with you.

Case Closed. ⚖️

What if your hair appointment felt like a ritual, not just an appointment?

That was the feeling we wanted to create for Kelly and Koah Studio.

Kelly came to us looking for a visual identity rooted in warmth, slow living, wellbeing, organic beauty and authenticity.

So rather than taking the usual polished salon route, we created something softer, warmer and more tactile.

Think earthy tones.
Flowing typography.
Custom Illustrations.
Organic shapes inspired by nature, movement and balance.

The result is a visual identity that feels a little like a slow Sunday morning. Calm, considered and welcoming, without losing its personality.

Because your brand shouldn’t show people what you do.
It should give them a feeling before they even walk through the door! 🤎

We had an idea. It got out of hand.

It started with a thought: what if there was a festival where the only thing on the agenda was having a really good nap?

So naturally, we gave it a name, a visual identity, festival maps, a schedule, designated nap zones, breakfast rules and a flock of very sleepy sheep.

Was any of this necessary?

Absolutely not.

Did we have fun making it?

Very much so.

The Annual Nap Festival.
The UK’s least energetic festival. 💤

“We’re too expensive.”

But expensive compared to what?

A cheaper option? A DIY logo? Another business charging less?

Branding isn’t just about what you pay. It’s about what your business gets in return.

When customers understand your value, trust what you offer and see what makes you different, price becomes part of a bigger picture.

Good branding won’t make everyone choose you. But it can help the right customers understand why you’re worth it.

And that’s a very different conversation. ⚖️

One brief. Three directions. And somehow, you’re expected to choose just one. 😅

For this Moxie Muse Files, we gave the same fictional brief to three very different creative directions for Butter & Crumb, a roadside cake shed serving homemade bakes and sweet treats.

Same business.
Same brief.
Three completely different ways to bring it to life.

From nostalgic and playful to soft and wholesome, each route tells a slightly different story about the brand.

But now we’re handing the decision over to you…

A, B or C? Which direction would you choose for Butter & Crumb?

Same Brand. Completely different vibe.

Part Two of the vans experiment, and this time I took things somewhere a little more graphic, chaotic and playful.

The brief was still exactly the same: use the Vans branding and see what happens.

No Pinterest. No moodboard. No carefully curated inspiration. Just following whatever ideas appeared and seeing how far I could push them.

I played around with the checkerboard pattern, the Old Skool silhouette, layering and a few illustrator tricks I don’t always get to experiment with.

What I loved about this exercise was starting without a clear destination. I could follow an idea, change direction, try something weird and see where I ended up.

It was a good reminder that sometimes you can just have a thought, make something from it and see where it takes you!

What brand and what product should I try next? 👀

Being seen is one thing. Being remembered is another.

You can have a brilliant service, plenty of happy customers and a steady stream of enquiries, but if people can’t remember Your business when they actually need what you offer, your making things harder than they need to be.

Your branding plays a big part in that.

Consistent visuals. Clear messaging. Something distinctive enough to stick in someone’s mind.

Because customers don’t start from scratch every time they need a service. They think of the business they’ve already noticed.

Visibility gets you noticed. MEMORABILITY gets you considered!

What if your coffee shop has a personality you could actually feel?

For Coastal Coffee, we built a brand around more than just coffee and the coast.

It’s slow mornings. Cold-water dips. Surfboards. Knowing your regulars order. Waving at someone you’ve never met because, well… you’re both locals now.

The result is a visual identity that feels warm, playful and unmistakably coastal. From the colour palette and illustrations to the little details that make the brand feel like a place you’d actually want to spend time in.

Because the best brand identities don’t just tell people what you do.

They give people a feeling about you before they’ve even walked through the door 🌊☕️

No brief. No mood-boards. No “but what’s the strategy?”

Just Vans, three record sleeves, and whatever came to mind.

For this personal, self-initiated project, the only rule was to use the Vans branding. Everything else was wide open.

And honestly? It was ridiculously freeing.

As a Brand Designer, I’m usually designing with a story to tell, a message to communicate and a very specific set of considerations to work within. That’s the job and I LOVE it.

BUT sometimes it’s nice to make something simply because your brain went, ooh, what if we did this?

So I followed the thought!

Along the way, I got to play with illustrator settings, filters and techniques I don’t always have a reason to use in client work, too.

No Pinterest. No moodboards. No second guessing whether it “fits”

Just making!

This is only part one…

Part Two takes the same starting point in a completely different direction 👀
