So you've finally got ultra-fast broadband, but your property is rather long. How many WiFi access points do you need to enjoy all the benefits of your new ultra-fast connection?

Heatmaps below show coverage strength of a 5GHz WiFi network. If your broadband is faster than 150Mbps, 5GHz is the best way to unlock your full broadband potential.

If you'd like to know if you're getting the most from your home WiFi, we can help.

We're looking for some kind community minded HAVEs in the Shirenewton/Earlswood/Itton/Devauden areas to share their unused bandwidth with their local community network.

With increasing numbers of residents working from home and the need for reliable video calling/meetings, these community networks are in need of more HAVEs to join and add additional bandwidth & resilience.

If you live near one of these communities, have Ultra-Fast broadband and would like to help, we'd love to hear from you!

Working at a beautiful location near Devauden. The property has a studio/workshop which connects to the internet using a power line adapter (EoP) fed from the main cottage.

The customer was experiencing streaming issues and poor quality video calls when in the studio and asked if we could help.

We installed a point to point radio network connecting the two buildings, with a link running at 300Mbps+.

Results:

Speed in the studio using a power line adapter: 4-6Mbps

Speed in the studio using our radio WiFi connection: 95Mbps+

If you'd like to add super fast WiFi to an outbuilding, we'd love to help. Please send us a message, or visit tcbp.co.uk/home-wifi for more information.

Do you sometimes see two WiFi networks with the same name, except one ends with '5G'? What's the difference?

2.4GHz is the original WiFi standard. It benefits from better range, but slower speeds. Older devices will generally use 2.4GHz.

5GHz is a newer WiFi standard. It benefits from much faster speeds, but smaller range. Newer devices will more likely support 5GHz.

If your property has solid internal walls, your may find that devices connected to the 5GHz WiFi suffer from slowness that you can't explain. Whereas an older smartphone in the same spot may be working faster on 2.4GHz WiFi. An example of this would be in the Kitchens and living room in the heatmap below.

If your broadband is not Ultra-Fast and your property has solid internal walls, you may benefit from only using the 2.4GHz WiFi.

If you'd like to know if you're getting the most from your home WiFi, we can help.

The importance of placing your WiFi access point in the optimum location, and not just where the phone line is.

These heat maps below show best case WiFi coverage using one high-end access point. Your mileage may vary when using the router provided by your ISP.

In the first image, internet experience in the kitchen and living room would be hit and miss. Web browsing may be slow to load, video calls would be degraded and laggy, video streaming may buffer frequently.
