When businesses upgrade devices or move to Windows 11 Pro, the conversation usually starts with performance.

Will it be faster?
Will everything still work?

Important questions, of course. But they’re not the whole story.

A lot of the real value in Windows 11 Pro comes from the security working quietly in the background.

Because most cyber incidents don’t begin with dramatic hacks.

They start with everyday moments:
🚕 A laptop left in a taxi
🔑 A reused password
📂 A file opened without a second thought

Sometimes, that’s all it takes.

Windows 11 Pro includes built-in protections designed to reduce those risks without making work harder.

That includes:
🔐 Device encryption to protect data if hardware is lost or stolen
👤 Sign-ins tied to the device instead of relying only on passwords
🛡️ Safety checks on unfamiliar downloads before they run
📦 Isolated environments that can open suspicious files safely

The important thing is that most people won’t even notice these protections working, and that’s exactly the point.

Good security should support productivity, not slow it down.

For many businesses, the biggest value in technology isn’t what it helps people do. It’s the problems it quietly prevents.

👉 When you assess business technology, are you only measuring performance, or also the risks it helps reduce?

There’s a lot of noise around “AI malware” right now.

It can sound dramatic. Almost like cyber attacks have suddenly become fully automated overnight.

But the reality is more subtle, and more important to understand.

AI hasn’t magically turned attackers into masterminds.

What it has done is make them faster.

Tasks that once took time and technical skill can now be done much more quickly:
✍️ Writing convincing phishing emails
🛠️ Tweaking malicious scripts
🔄 Testing multiple attack variations
📧 Sending realistic-looking messages at scale

That changes the pace of attacks significantly.

A phishing email no longer needs to be perfect. It only needs to look believable enough to catch someone at the wrong moment.

Behind the scenes, attackers can now adjust tactics rapidly if something gets blocked, trying slightly different approaches until one succeeds.

And for businesses, that speed matters ⏳

Once an attacker gains access, even briefly, the window to detect and respond can shrink dramatically.

What used to unfold over hours might now happen in minutes.

But here’s the important part:
The fundamentals of cybersecurity haven’t really changed.

Most attacks still begin with:
🔑 Stolen passwords
👤 Compromised accounts
⚠️ Someone clicking in a hurry

Which is why basics still matter so much:
✅ Multi-factor authentication
✅ Strong password habits
✅ Security awareness training
✅ Visibility across devices and accounts

Tools like Microsoft Defender help by spotting unusual behaviour early, before a small issue becomes a larger one.

Because modern threats often don’t look obviously malicious anymore.

Sometimes they look like:
📧 Normal emails
🔐 Normal logins
💻 Normal activity

…just slightly out of place.

The challenge now isn’t only stopping attacks. It’s spotting them quickly enough to respond before they spread.

💭 If an attack started inside your business today, how quickly would you know? And what would happen next?

🔐 Your phone might be more vulnerable than you think.

Security researchers have shown how certain Android phones could have sensitive data extracted in under a minute using a USB connection and physical access to the device.

The phones affected use MediaTek chips, which appear in a surprisingly large number of Android devices.

What makes this concerning is that the attack doesn’t rely on someone clicking a bad link or installing malicious software.

Instead, researchers accessed a low-level part of the phone responsible for handling encryption and PIN protection. From there, they were able to retrieve security keys, unlock stored data, and even determine the device PIN.

That could expose:
📱 Messages
📸 Photos
📂 Files
💰 Crypto wallet information

…and potentially business data too.

The good news is that this vulnerability has been responsibly disclosed and security patches are available.

But it’s an important reminder that cybersecurity isn’t just about email threats and passwords. The devices we carry every day hold huge amounts of personal and business information.

If your phone was lost, stolen, or left unattended for a short period of time, what could someone gain access to?

Keeping devices updated is no longer optional. It’s one of the simplest and most effective security steps you can take.

🔐 Would you trust AI to generate your passwords?

It sounds like a smart shortcut. After all, AI tools can write emails, reports, and even code.

But recent research shows AI-generated passwords may not be as secure as they appear.

“We’re fine. We use Macs"... For a long time, Macs were seen as the “safer” option compared to Windows.

But that thinking is now outdated.

Cyber criminals have shifted their focus, and macOS is firmly on their radar. In fact, recent research shows it’s just as attractive a target as Windows.

One of the biggest threats right now is something called info stealer malware.

These are small, hidden programs designed to quietly collect sensitive data from your device, things like:
• Saved browser sessions
• Password keychains
• Cloud access tokens (like Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace logins)
• Developer credentials
• Even cryptocurrency wallets

With that access, attackers don’t need to “break in” in the traditional sense. They can take over accounts, send convincing fake invoices, or access your systems without raising suspicion.

What’s more concerning is how these attacks happen.

We’re seeing fake system alerts, convincing downloads, and even messages from trusted contacts being used to trick people into installing malicious software.

This is no longer about which device you use. It’s about how well your business is protected.

Security today means:
✔️ Educated, aware staff
✔️ Strong endpoint protection
✔️ Active monitoring for unusual behaviour
✔️ Properly secured cloud systems

If your business relies on Macs, or a mix of devices, it’s worth asking:

Would you spot this before it caused damage?

If you have ever tried to get an AI tool to understand an entire project instead of just one document, this will probably resonate.

Microsoft has introduced Copilot Agents in OneDrive, and it is a step towards more practical, real-world AI use in business 🤖

Traditionally, AI tools like Copilot work on a single file at a time. One Word document, one spreadsheet, one presentation.

But real projects are never that neat. They span multiple documents, meeting notes, budgets, proposals, timelines, and more.

Copilot Agents changes that.

You can now select up to 20 related files and bundle them into a single .agent file.

Instead of asking:
“Summarise this document”

You can ask:
• What risks exist across this project?
• What deadlines are coming up?
• What did we agree across multiple meetings?

The key difference is context. The AI is no longer limited to one file, it is working across the full project set.

Even better, these agents are saved in OneDrive as shareable files.

That means teams can collaborate using the same AI-driven view of the project without rebuilding it each time.

They can also be updated as documents change, keeping insights aligned with the latest information.

At the moment, this is available to Microsoft 365 Copilot users via OneDrive on the web.

From a business perspective, the value is clear. Less time searching through folders, more time understanding what matters.

If AI can help bring clarity across multiple documents, that is a meaningful productivity gain.

👉 Would you trust AI to interpret an entire project, or do you still prefer reviewing everything manually?

If you receive a message saying a large Apple Pay payment has been blocked and you need to call a number urgently… Stop right there! 🚩

A new scam is targeting Apple users, and it is designed to look highly convincing.

The message often claims a high-value transaction has been attempted. It may include a case number, mention suspicious activity, and use polished branding that feels legitimate.

But the key detail?
The phone number connects you directly to scammers.

The tactic is simple. Create urgency and fear around money, then offer a quick fix 😱

Once on the call, attackers may try to collect:
• Apple ID login details
• Verification codes sent to your device
• Payment or card information

With that, they can attempt to take over accounts.

A few important reminders:

⚠️ Apple does not ask you to call a number from a text or email for fraud issues.
⚠️ It does not use aggressive, urgent language to pressure you into acting quickly.

That urgency is a classic phishing technique 🎣

If something feels off:
• Check the sender’s address carefully
• Look for generic greetings or small errors
• Never use contact details provided in the message

Instead, go directly to official channels or check your purchase history on your device.

For businesses, this is another reminder that cyber threats are becoming more convincing.

Clear processes and user awareness are essential.

👉 If someone in your team received this message, would they know what to do?

The Extended Security Updates (ESU) programme can make continuing to use Windows 10 feel like a safe option, however, it was always intended as a temporary solution rather than a long-term strategy.

Once ESU ends in October 2026, Windows 10 will no longer receive security updates. At that point, businesses face increased exposure to security threats, as well as potential compliance risks.

Despite this, many organisations are still delaying migration because Windows 10 continues to “work” for their day-to-day needs.

Planning the transition to Windows 11 early gives businesses control over the process. It allows time to budget properly, prepare systems, and upgrade in a structured way rather than under pressure.

Find out how moving now ensures a smoother, more secure transition, in our latest blog: https://affinityit.co.uk/blog/relying-on-windows-10-extended-support-time-to-upgrade

The Start menu is one of those features you rarely think about… until it changes!

Windows 11 is rolling out an updated version, and more devices are starting to see it. This is not a complete redesign, but a tidy-up rather than a transformation.

Microsoft’s goal is simple; make it quicker, cleaner and more personal.

So what’s actually changed?

At the top, search is now front and centre. The idea is to help you jump straight to what you need without digging around.

Pinned apps remain, giving you quick access to your most-used tools.

Then there is the part that tends to divide opinion… the Recommended section.

This shows suggested files and apps based on recent activity. The good news is you can turn it off if it is not helpful, but one thing to note - disabling it also removes recent items in places like File Explorer and taskbar menus.

Another update is how all apps are displayed.

Instead of scrolling through a long list, apps are grouped into categories, with frequently used ones prioritised. It is designed to make navigation faster and more intuitive.

There is also an optional Phone Link panel, keeping your mobile connected without cluttering your desktop.

If you were not a fan of the current Start menu, this probably will not completely change your mind. It is an evolution, not a step back to older versions.
