🌐 REVOLUTION IN IT OR HOW THE FIRST SERVER APPEARED:

Imagine... 1969, a laboratory in California. Scientists are manually connecting wires to a strange iron cabinet with flashing lights. Little do they know that this is the world's first server, and it is about to start a revolution.

What was it like?

The first IMP (Interface Message Processor) server was a modified Honeywell 516 computer that processed data for the ARPANET network, which became the prototype of the Internet:

1⃣ Had 12KB of RAM;

2⃣ Was the size of a fridge and weighed almost a ton;

3⃣ Cost as much as a luxury apartment;

4⃣ It was the starting point for the Internet and laid the foundation for modern data routing;

5⃣ 50 years later, one of the first IMPs sold at auction for $45,000.

Why did it become a revolution?

1. It embodied the idea of "networking":

Before 1969, computers were isolated machines, like islands without bridges. The Honeywell 516 (IMP) was the first to network them, becoming a living example of data transfer between devices.

2. It laid the foundation for the modern Internet:

The IMP used packet switching, a technology that still underpins the Internet today, which works on the basis of

- Data packets (individual digital "letters") rather than a continuous signal.

- Routing - the automatic selection of a path for data transmission.

- Fault tolerance - if one route fails, packets continue on another route.

3. This was the beginning of the "forever online" standard:

The inscription "Do not shut down!" on the first server is a symbol of the new era:

Unlike old computers, modern servers run 24/7 and are responsible for the entire Internet.

Modern servers are millions of times more powerful than IMPs. For example, our Ryzen 9 9950X is about 150 billion times faster than the first server, but it was the IMP that started the new industry and deservedly received a plaque that said "This server is a historical artifact. Do not touch!".

🔧 Not just answers but a daily marathon

Today, we want to give you a little peek behind the scenes and show what a typical day looks like for a support specialist. It’s not just “answering questions” – it’s a real balance of speed, focus, and patience.

🖥 Here’s a short story about a day in the life of one of our team members:

Getting ready. I turn on my computer, pour myself a cup of tea (a must!), and mentally prepare for the day. It’s important to stay focused, our customers need help, and mistakes can be serious.

Shift begins. First thing I check what my teammates handled before my shift. Are there any ongoing issues I need to follow up on? Then, it’s time to dive into chats and tickets. Three hours of non-stop conversations, solving problems, and juggling tasks.

Quick break. 10–15 minutes to breathe. I come back with a cup of coffee – if I’m feeling tired, it gives me a boost.

Back to work. Some questions are simple, but others feel like a full-blown puzzle. I need to dig into logs, ask other teams, and double-check everything. And no matter what, I have to stay polite, even if the customer is frustrated.

End of the shift. With some calm music in the background, I finish up the last tasks and make sure everything is ready for the next person. It’s important to leave things in good shape – my teammates deserve a smooth start too.

Every request you send us isn’t just “another ticket” – it’s something a real person is working on. Sometimes, a short answer takes many checks behind the scenes. And that calm, kind reply? It might be written with a fifth cup of coffee in hand, late at night, with the real wish to help.
