It’s finally out. We launched New to Sheffield (newtosheffield.co.uk), a brand-new website created in partnership with our friends at Learn for Life Enterprise!

Last year, we shared our mission to re-imagine the old Asylum Journey website, and after 18 months of listening to the community’s experiences, both the highs and the lows, we collaboratively developed a more user-friendly and accessible resource for anyone new to Sheffield.

We want to say a huge thank you to all the wonderful people who attended our launch event in the heart of Sheffield the other week. It was such an electric day, and the vibes at the event were unlike anything else. We were so excited to finally share an essential online resource.

It was a fantastic day filled with inspiring individuals, music, art, food, and poetry, community and celebrating the richness of our city, Sheffield.

The ‘New to Sheffield’ site is designed to warmly welcome newcomers, providing essential information on where to go, what to do, and whom to talk to. We're going to be iteratively improving the site by adding new content and features based on your feedback

So we’d love for you to share the site far and wide! If you didn’t make it to the event, we invite you to check it out and share your feedback.

We’ve made a small pledge as part of this year’s Great British Spring Clean, pledging 20 bags of litter.

Over the coming weeks, our team will be heading out into local spaces in and out of Sheffield to do our bit. It’s a simple action, but one that feels important, especially when so much of our work is rooted in community and place.

Through conversations in our lunch and learn sessions and team discussions, it’s clear that people care about the environments we work in and alongside. This felt like a practical way to act on that.

We have seen firsthand that littering is a serious problem that affects the environment in many different ways. It damages ecosystems, harms wildlife and pollutes our waters.

The Great British Spring Clean is taking place from the 13th to the 29th of March.

Are you taking part?

Something we’ve been working on for a while is almost ready to share.

Last year, we mentioned how we teamed up with Learn for Life Enterprise to re-imagine the old Asylum Journey website. We have been working behind the scenes on creating a new digital resource which is more user-friendly and accessible for anyone new to Sheffield who needs support and guidance.

Over the past 18 months, we have been sitting in community spaces and listening to people’s experiences of being new to Sheffield
both the highs and the lows.

We’ve collaboratively created a new website with the community at the centre of it, called ‘New to Sheffield’.

We’re so excited that in the next couple of weeks, we’ll be getting ready to launch the new website at our launch event right here in the heart of Sheffield.

The excitement is building, and we thought we’d share a sneak peek of our tote “goody” bags with the new branding.

It’s been a real team effort from everyone at Learn for Life Enterprise, the team here at Hive, and most importantly, the huge amount of volunteers and partners who have contributed their time, thoughts and experiences. 💜

We’re grateful to everyone who has helped shape a platform that we’re really proud of.

Over the past couple of years, we’ve been doing a lot of work behind the scenes. 🐝

We can’t actually believe we’re saying this, but
Hive IT is now officially a B Corpℱ!

We have joined a part of a global movement working to benefit people and the planet.

The process involved taking a deep look at how we run the business inside and out, from governance and our team, to community impact and environmental responsibility. We were assessed through the B Impact Assessment, verified by B Lab UK.

It’s been a huge learning journey for us all.

We do want to say a BIG thank you to Better Not Stop for their guidance and advice along the way and for reminding us that certification is really just the starting point.

Becoming a B Corp doesn’t suddenly change who we are overnight, and we definitely don’t have everything figured out. What it does give us is a framework to keep improving and holding ourselves accountable as we grow.

Most importantly, this milestone belongs to our whole team, who put in the work to make it happen. This belongs to you! 💛

And to all the other B Corps, happy B Corp month!

With International Women’s Day coming up this weekend on March 8th, we decided to celebrate early by asking the women in Hive a few questions.

Questions ranging from:

- Who inspired them
- What do we gain when women thrive
- Why does mentoring matter
- What advice would they give to younger women entering their field of work

Their answers were honest, shaped by real-life stories and experiences.

There were reflections on supportive parents, colleagues and mentors. On managers who created space to grow. On building confidence over time by being able to work in diverse teams.

One theme that came through clearly was that progress grows in supportive environments. It happens when people create opportunities and choose to encourage and support one another.

In our industry and in the sectors we work in, different perspectives genuinely lead to better decisions and better outcomes. When women feel able to grow and lead, teams become stronger, and the work improves.

We’re super grateful to work alongside thoughtful, capable women who shape our culture at Hive and the services we deliver every day. 🐝 💜

The other week was an exciting week for us as we kicked off a new project with E-IMMUNE from the University of Sheffield and Itecho, exploring how digital tools might better support people undergoing immunotherapy treatment for cancer.

E-IMMUNE are looking at how technology can help patients and clinical teams manage treatment side effects more effectively. From spotting symptoms earlier, to helping people feel more confident in reporting things that they’re unsure about.

We’ve joined the project to support user testing as part of their research study, using eye-tracking to understand how real people interact with Itecho Health Ascelus platform.

We kicked off the first session with an in-person workshop, which was to bring all the teams together to:

- Understand their research goals
- Seeing the platform in action with a lovely demo from the team
- Most importantly, asking lots and lots of questions
- Lastly, planning the user testing approach and next steps together

During this first workshop, it has opened our eyes to the complexities that people can struggle with when navigating complex health issues.

This is a perfect example of how, by shaping technology around real needs, it has the potential to support earlier intervention, clear communication and better outcomes for everyone involved.

A big thank you to the team for trusting us to help them with their project goals and for their time and patience during the first workshop to kick off the project. 💛

We’re looking forward to the next phase and learning alongside such a collaborative, research-led team.

We have just finished our first work experience week of 2026, supporting four students from various schools across Sheffield.

Last year, we wanted to focus on improving how we show up for students who are so eager to learn from us and get an insight into what it is like working in a digital agency.

Our goal was to show them that there was so much more to software development than just coding.

Across the week, students spent time with teams right across the business, exploring how ideas move from concept to delivery:

- With Delivery, they learned how projects are planned, managed and brought to life
- With User Research and Design, they explored design thinking, branding and sketching ideas
- With Development, they got hands-on experience building with code
- With Quality Assurance, they discovered how testing, security and bug fixing can keep products and websites reliable

This was the first week of two work experiences we are running in 2026, and we’re thrilled to hear that they enjoyed their week so much.

This is just some of the positive feedback we got from our students:

“There’s so much more behind each project than you initially think” - This right here was our goal achieved!

“The practical element of it, very hands-on and interactive, we applied everything we learned”

“Being in a comfortable work environment where I can ask questions freely”

“Enjoyed hands-on coding with a scaffolded website set up for us to build off”

We hope the first set of students enjoyed their time with us as much as we had with them. 💛

We’re looking forward to welcoming our next group soon! đŸ€©

We have recently collaborated and partnered with Digital Catapult and Nature Nurture to co-create the Web of Life Quest. A playful, interactive, educational experience that combines physical play with digital product design.

Over the course of nine weeks, we used design thinking, service design and prototyping to develop an initial concept into a digital experience. The Web of Life Quest is directly influenced by local communities, young people and environmental groups.

We thoroughly enjoyed the collaborative part of this project. From co-creation workshops at Knowle West Media Centre in Bristol to building an offline-capable progressive web app, this project brought together:

- Community-led design
- User-centred digital development
- Sound, ecology and immersive action
- Real-world testing with families and schools
- 1-to-1 interviews with potential partners in the conservation sector

This project brought a real mix of individuals together, all skilled in their craft, from sound artists, ecologists, designers and many more. All are passionate about creating something that would make a positive impact. 💛

Together, we created a nature-based trail game that helps people understand connections in nature and how to make nature-positive decisions in a fun and engaging way.

For us, this is what tech for good looks like, which is careful design, collaborative development, and designing with people for a positive impact.

You can read more about this project here https://www.hiveit.co.uk/our-work/digital-catapult-web-of-life-quest

If you are researching community engagement platforms, digital education tools or nature-positive experiences, we’d love to learn alongside you.

The other week, we brought everyone together for our beginning-of-year celebration company day.

It was a day for all teams to get together at our office in Sheffield to reflect on the year we had in 2025. It wasn’t about big announcements or shiny slideshows.

It was about pausing and looking back on the year, sharing what we have learned, achieved and how we showed up for each other. 💛

We shared:

- A simple year in review (inside and outside of the business)
- A short financial update, which was shared openly and honestly
- We had 10-minute reflections from each strategy team on what they have achieved
- A look ahead at where we are heading
- Then, finally, finishing the day by saying a big thank you, with an award for every single person in the room and a celebratory meal in the evening

Days like this help us reconnect with what matters most, which is people, first and always.

Because every person shapes the work we do.

Most of all, they reinforce something we care deeply about, which is building a workplace where people feel valued, supported and connected.

A massive thank you to everyone at Hive for participating, sharing your ideas, and contributing to another successful company day. 🐝

Here’s to another year of doing good work with brilliant people. As we are coming to the end of 2025, our annual video is making another appearance this year.

From meaningful digital projects to muddy boot volunteering days, 2025 has been a year shaped by community, curiosity and purpose.
