When do you service your Computer? Often is the case that we just let this element of life slide. Having been servicing Apple computers for too long that I care to mention, vary rarely do I ever have a customer wanting to have their Mac serviced. Well the actually happened twice during the last 7 days. So rare is the event, thats to say twice in the past 3 years.

Any how, I digress. What happens when your digital life comes grinding or instant halt? Do you have a plan? The chances are that this is way down on your list of things to look after. Do you have a backup? Do you have a disaster recovery plan?

We spend so much of our time on line these days, it is becoming a crucial as having a drivers licence and the ability to travel is in danger of being overtaken by the ability to go online. And what of your digital security, this features even less than disaster recovery.

I see so many that have not any of these in place that it is just as well that I do repair more than 96% of all failures which come through my door. But that said 4% still lose their data, still lose their ability to seamlessly travel from one broken device to another replacement. Don't let the digital world lead you to becoming a statistic.

Do you have a backup of your data?

I have seen over the past several weeks people who a, don’t have a back up of their data, b, people who have an iCloud account but have no additional capacity other than the free 5Gb of storage and no other form of backup. Don’t allow yourself to become a data loss statistic for what is in effect £10 per month or less for piece of mind.

I know what you’re saying, just £10 per month, but it’s another £10 per month.

Believe me when I have had tears of loss in my workshop when I have to tell people that they have lost their digital world on one go, have had to tell 3rd year students that they will have to re-write their dissertation because their computer died through fluid ingress or failure and didn’t have a backup. Just think about it for a moment, one minute you had a complete digital life and the very next through no fault of your own, you have lost everything. I have seen marriages break up over the loss of the children’s pictures which were lost after the drive failure. I have had people paying several £000’s of pounds recovering data which had no back up.

Don’t become a data loss statistic, cover yourself and back up your data.

It's been a while since my last post, so here we go. I set up MacSupport Sheffield specifically to help local Sheffield and South Yorkshire people having issues with the apple kit that the Apple Store only wants to upsell to a new Machine.
