More work on my new painting, The Blooding/Village Fete, today. I've started to add the bucolic landscape in the background - an idyllic English scene containing many darker elements under the soil. In the foreground, a privileged boy caresses the fox in his lap...having been on the hunt earlier that day. This is a metaphor for Reform/Restore politicians, who promise to nurture while leeching the blood from their followers.
In the background, two kindly older ladies hold a Victoria Sponge cake - another metaphor for the brutal history of Empire.
