New logo for ITV ScreenWorks.

It was nice to get a call recently from ITV Signpost asking for my help in designing a new logo for their upcoming ITV ScreenWorks training programme.

ITV ScreenWorks, funded by North East Mayoral Strategic Authority, is part of their ‘Create Talent’ programme aiming to close regional skills gaps and create a skilled, diverse, ready-to-go workforce in TV, film and video production.

The free, hands-on, industry-led, inclusive, screen skills training will reach more people across the North East than ever before, giving them pathways, mentoring and support in this vibrant creative sector.

The brief was fairly tight and also needed to adhere to ITV’s brand guidelines. The final logo features a viewfinder with hand drawn icons signifying ‘lights camera, action’.

Outdoor advertising, merchandise and print work for Redhills Durham Miners' Hall at the 140th Durham Miners’ Gala.

It’s been a real pleasure to work on the brand refresh for this iconic building and to see it all come together at the Big Meet yesterday.

Over the last few years Redhills Miners' Hall has been transformed into an impressive heritage centre, in a multi-million pound restoration project. It also aims to help rejuvenate the local cultural landscape, by being a venue for live music, cultural events, exhibitions, conferences and weddings. It was also elevated to Grade II* listed status last week by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport last week.

Proud to help Redhills Durham Miners Hall with the design of outdoor memorial boards for their special act of remembrance that marked the 75th anniversary of the Easington and Eppleton Colliery disasters.

In 1951, County Durham was shaken by two devastating mining disasters within weeks of each other. On 29 May, an underground explosion at Easington Colliery claimed the lives of 83 miners and rescue workers, leaving families and communities across the East Durham coalfield grieving. On 6 July, a further explosion at Eppleton Colliery, near Hetton-le-Hole, took the lives of nine miners.

Together, these tragedies left a deep and lasting mark on the Durham coalfield. They remain among the most painful chapters in the region’s industrial history, remembered by many as part of the 'Year of Tragedy'.

The memorial took place last month at Redhills in the Memorial Garden.
