We’re delighted to announce the appointment of Adrian Riley as the artist for PLACE Lab Weardale.💚

Adrian is based in North Yorkshire and brings a wealth of experience in developing public art with communities, particularly in rural settings. He’s worked in the North East on several occasions and was especially excited by the opportunity to support Weardale’s cultural organisations to tell their stories in new and creative ways.

The Weardale Wonders PLACE Lab project is all about celebrating the rich and often unseen cultural infrastructure that already exists across Weardale. Through this work, we want to help raise the profile of the brilliant organisations, people and activity that make Weardale such a special place, adding value to what’s already happening and helping show more visibility to it.

Over the coming months, Adrian will be spending time meeting people and communities across Weardale, using these conversations to inform ideas for a series of artworks that reflect both the organisations involved and the communities they serve.

SCARBOROUGH NEEDS YOUR HELP TO WIN £3 MILLION
Towns across the country have a chance to become the UK's first-ever Town of Culture as part of a new competition set up by the government.

The winning town will be awarded £3 million to run a programme celebrating creativity in 2028. This could include festivals, events, workshops, schools programmes, theatre, art, dance, music, comedy. The fund could support existing organisations and events, or kick start new ones.

Town of Culture will be a celebration of all that's brilliant about Scarborough, so we need you to tell us what you think! This is the first of many opportunities to give your thoughts if Scarborough progresses in the competition.
