Choosing the wrong mount colour.

Yes, I know you love teal. Your watercolour doesn’t 🤣

A mount isn't just a background colour – it sets the mood for the entire piece.

Bright, bold mounts can end up competing with the artwork rather than complementing it.

Most of the time, cream, warm white or soft grey will let the artwork do the talking.

And if you want a little extra flair, a subtle double mount can add depth without stealing the spotlight.

✨ Pro tip: Always hold mount samples against the artwork in natural light. When it's right, you'll know.

10 Things I (Don't Quite Love) About Framing #1

When someone brings in a beautiful piece of artwork and says, "It's just a quick frame, please..." 😊
..and then casually mentions it's been rolled up in the attic since 1945.

Older artwork often comes with a bit of history - and sometimes a few surprises too. Whether it's age, fragility, water damage or simply years spent in storage, these pieces usually need a little extra care before they can be framed properly.

As much as we'd love every job to be a simple one, preserving artwork correctly often means careful stretching, specialist backing and conservation-quality materials to help protect it for years to come.

Our pro tip? Tell us as much as you can about the artwork when you bring it in. The more we know upfront, the better advice we can give.

And if you're transporting something delicate, a tube or flat board is always your friend. Folded artwork rarely arrives in a happy mood. 😅

After all, some pieces are worth taking a little extra time over.

Q: How do you protect signatures during the framing process?

A: Signatures are handled with extreme care throughout, we avoid all contact with signed areas and there is the option of using UV protective glazing to prevent ink from fading, if you are concerned please do mention it to us and we will be sure to advise you on the best approach.

Q: Is my shirt ensured whilst it's with you?

A: Yes, all shirts in our care are fully insured throughout the framing process.

Q: Can I include extras like signed photos, match tickets, programmes or medals?

A: Our box style frames are ideal for this, you can combine your shirt with photos, tickets, badges, programmes, or any other memorabilia to create a truly unique frame.

Our memorabilia framing is proving extremely popular at the moment, so we thought we'd take some of the questions we've been asked over the past few months and explain a little bit more about our approach and framing services 💙

Over the next week or so, we'll answer some of our most frequently asked questions, but if you ever have any more questions, we're always here to answer them!

First up...

Q: Will my shirt fade over time inside the frame?

A: With the right materials, long term fading can be kept to an absolute minimum, we always recommend not to hang your frame in direct sunlight. If you are concerned about possible light damage, please let us know and we can advise on protective UV glazing options available.

Q: How is my shirt attached inside the frame?
A: We use invisible specialist mounting techniques, including stainless steel pins and hand stitching, that hold the shirt securely without causing any damage to the fabric. We never use staples or adhesives directly on your shirt, which means your shirt will remain in its original condition.

Q: Do you use acid free materials?
A: Yes, always. All our backing boards and mounts are acid free, which will protect your shirt from yellowing or deteriorating over time.
