INTRODUCING THE DOUBLE L'S

Nope, not a folk band from the 90s.

Just two new members of the team with one convenient set of initials.

Welcome to the team Luke Doughty and Liam McDonnell !

Luke joins us in Technical Support and Liam in Sales.

We're delighted to have you onboard. We know you're going to do great things 👏

Well, it's not often we can say we're helping people get to their dog food, moisturiser and chocolate fix.

Most of the custom RFID cards we usually print do clever stuff like charge cars, open secret doors (as well as regular ones) or help members rack up loyalty points.

But for one of our customers, they’re helping residents access their deliveries faster.

If you’re lucky enough to be a resident at the Candle House in the Granary Wharf district of Leeds, you can now use your very own smart card to retrieve your parcels. Just casually tap your card on the screen of their new Parcel Locker and ta-da! Instant access to your personal letter box.

Which means Fido doesn’t need to wait any longer than necessary for his dog treats.

With over 160 apartments in the block, one imagines that deliveries used to be a bit troublesome.

Nice initiative Granary Wharf (Candle House) Management Ltd 😊

We recently had a customer enquire about trading in their old ID Card printer for a discount off a new one.

No problem we said, and a new Evolis Zenius2 was duly secured with a trade-up discount. All they had to do was send us their old one.

Imagine our absolute delight when this little beauty turned up. A 2007 classic; plastic nicely yellowed with age. Taking us back to the year that the first iPhone was released and when AI simply meant ‘All Inclusive’.

We always securely and responsibly recycle any card printers sent to us for disposal. But this one’s going on the shelf.

ID CARD PRINTER TERMS DEMYSTIFIED - PART 8

Here’s the last one in our series of navigating the minefield of ID Card printer terms.

DIGITAL SHREDDING

What it isn’t: The tearing of smartphones and devices into long, uniform strips.

What it is: The process of removing all personal data from the ID printer device, making it unrecoverable. Bear in mind that the printer ribbon itself will still retain the imprint of the information though, so this needs to be shredded securely after use.

Here’s part 7 of our handy guide to navigating the minefield of ID Card printer terms.

AUTO FEED

What it isn’t: A new fuel made from hay derivatives that powers motor vehicles.

What it is: An ID card printer that has a card stacker for blank cards, for automatic printing. This means you can print batches of cards together, without any manual input from you. Printers that are described as ‘hand feed’ require you to manually feed in a card every time you print.

SMART CARD ENCODING

What it isn’t: Training and development to make your ID cards cleverer.

What it is: Adding programming to the chip in the card so it can “do its thing” like open doors or log activity.

YMCKOK.

What it isn’t: Someone accidentally leaning on the keyboard.

What it is: A colour ribbon used by double sided card printers to print in full colour on the front of the card, and black on the reverse. Y= Yellow, M = Magenta, C= Cyan, K = Black, O= Protective Overlay. The extra K at the end is for printing the black on the reverse.

DPI.

What it isn’t: A rank in the police force.

What it is: Dots per inch. The higher the number, the better the quality of print. Most direct-to-card printers print in 300 DPI colour. You'll need to spend a bit more if you want a model that can print in 600 DPI colour.
