I don't think I'll ever tire of this place! I've been visiting since I was a kid and It's grown so much over the years, but riding on the top of the tram is still one of my favorite bits!

⚪ MIMA ⚪

I always like a visit to MIMA, even if it's just a quick visit. The art trolley is definitely a bonus for kids and I like joining in to a bit of impromptu creativity as a grown-up too.

⭐ NEW ⭐

All painted and now getting their final coat of varnish ✨

These dinky wood slices are going to be made into fridge magnets.

After making the festive jumper decorations at the end of last year, I've been looking for something else to hand paint. I love collecting fridge magnets from our travels, so this seemed perfect 🤩

🫣 COMFORT ZONE 🫣

Painting with watercolours is not something I'd class as being comfortable with, but non the less, for some reason I had the urge to give it a whirl this week. I was given some lovely flowers and they seemed like great inspiration.

I started with a rough sketch, which I didn't erase enough in places before I started painting 🙈 It wasn't my intention to include all of the flowers, just a select few and capture the vase.

Out came the watercolour palette, a random selection of brushes and I did also borrow Littlie's metallic watercolours for the gold lines on the vase.

The final result... It could be worse 😂 But the most important thing is that I challenged myself, I tried and I enjoyed the process. It doesn't matter that the end result is far from perfect.

I thought afterwards about how there is so much I could learn about blending, too much/little water and technique to improve. Maybe I'll learn more about it one day, but there's nothing to stop me just having fun!

🏺 WESTGATE POTTERY 🏺

It was brilliant to visit here for an open day.

Upstairs, with some clay, Littlie tried different tools and modelled a dog face 🐶 then a little door (complete with hinges, wood and moss details 😍). In the meantime, I could resist playing with the clay too, sculpting a teeny tiny bowl and a ghost.

Littlie was so enthusiastic to try the wheel as well - they listened closely about the basics of how it worked and really enjoyed the experience. We were really proud of Littlie for trying the wheel and then hubby had a go too!

Thanks to - great idea to have this open day session 😊

🦋 BUTTERFLY WORLD 🦋

Littlie has been so eager to visit here again! They love the butterflies swooshing past, feeding the fish and watching the meerkats pop up from their burrows. When they spot a butterfly that's landed, they like studying the colours and patterns on their wings.

I love all the interesting flora & fauna as well as the beautiful colours of the butterflies. The vibrant blue butterflies were definitely my favourite for this visit, but they are so fast I didn't see any still to photograph 🌸🌿🪷🌱

🥚 LEARNING ABOUT EGGS WITH LITTLIE 🥚

Talking about springtime in our house led to talking about eggs, but not chocolate eggs!

We were thinking about nests and birds, then discussed any other creatures that Littlie could think of that laid eggs too. Before you knew it, we had made a list and were looking at sizes & colours of various eggs. We were comparing them, noticing similarities in shape and comparing sizes.

I printed all the eggs shapes out, roughly to 1:1 scale and then Littlie set about colouring them using pencil crayons, tissue paper and watercolours.

When it came to laying them out on the cardboard background, we began to think about habitats. We decided to create sections to indicate the type of habitat the different eggs would be laid in.

We've really loved learning together on this 💚 this is why art is so important. We've covered so much while creating this, from biology and maths to fine motor skills and handwriting practice.

I'm Kat 👋 I love colourful things, living by the sea up North, time with family and art of course!

You'll often see posts where me & our Littlie have been getting creative. We love making, painting and drawing together.

In my creative work, I take commissions as well as producing my own designs and products. I offer wholesale to shops and businesses. Throughout the year, I usually trade at a few events and you'll find items available in my online shop too.
