⚠️️ A critical reminder for business owners commissioning software or mobile apps:
A recent report by cybersecurity firm UpGuard revealed that more than 16,000 databases were left wide open to the public, leaking user records, credentials, and private messages.
Why? Because developers rushed the setup or relied on AI tools without understanding basic access controls (like database Row-Level Security).
If you are paying someone to build an application for your business, you are ultimately responsible for your users' data.
A few things you should insist on before signing off on any build:
Security isn't an "add-on": Ensure access control policies are built in from day one, not treated as an afterthought.
Audit the defaults: Platforms make it easy to deploy fast, but default settings are rarely production-ready security-wise.
Don't accept "it looks done": A beautiful interface can sit on top of a completely unlocked database. Ask for proof of backend security reviews.
Build fast, but make sure you verify the foundations first.
