With the DSPT deadline fast approaching, a quick reminder: republishing your toolkit is not a tick-and-submit job.

The Data Security and Protection Toolkit is how care providers in England show they store and share information safely. If you have completed it before, your previous answers are still saved, which helps. But "still there" is not the same as "still accurate."

Over a year, staff move on, new systems get added, and the way information flows through your organisation changes. The honest task is reviewing and updating your toolkit to reflect how you really work today, not simply republishing last year's answers.

If you are completing it for the first time, the same applies, but the clock is tight. The sooner you start gathering evidence the better, and there is free support available through the Better Security, Better Care programme.

This Carers Week (8 to 14 June), the theme is Building Carer Friendly Communities.

For home care providers, that work can begin right at home. Many of the people who care for a living are also caring unpaid for a loved one when they get home, often without anyone at work knowing.

Recognising and supporting those working carers, with flexibility, understanding and a culture that lets them stay, is one of the most meaningful things any provider can do. It is good for people, and good for the workforce too.
