Yesterday we had a brand shoot with Petra Blacklock ~ Essex Family and Brand photographer
This shoot was long overdue, as since we became a team of two we’d not had any done professionally, (apart from some award pics earlier this year with Petra) and I’ve been struggling with content on socials because of it. There’s only so many selfies you can take and let’s face it, showing our process and the people behind the business is even more important now with the advancement of AI and how the creative industry has changed (not for the better I might add!)
We managed to choose a day when it poured with rain (inbetween two beautiful sunny days 🙄) but luckily we had an amazing bright space (thank you Justine Justine Coughlan | Holistic Massage Therapy ) We had such a fun day! Petra is brilliant at making you feel relaxed and comfortable and we also had some very funny moments. Thanks to Justine, we also managed to capture so much behind the scenes footage that is going to provide some funny outtakes. Looking forward to seeing the final images and all the ideas they spark. 🥰 🙌🏻

I admit it...this year I've been pretty rubbish creating our Friday Showcases! Often they take quite a bit of time to produce, client design work has to be a priority, we also have to be careful when we show work if a client is working to a launch.

BUT I also know it's important that we show the work we do and the thinking behind it, so here is our latest showcase. We have worked closely with Nursery Kitchen now for over 5 years, and 4 years ago we were an integral part of their rebrand. We have designed hundreds of resource documents, promotional material and internal communication pieces since the rebrand and love working on these. Creating new illustrations by hand (no AI used!) and keeping all the materials on-brand and engaging. So our showcase this week is of a few of the many digital resources we create. These are then uploaded to their website or sent to early educators and parents and are packed full of useful information and advice on various subjects around nutrition and early education.
Digital brochures contain links to web pages, direct to forms, specific pages or contact information. So they are a useful way to get your message across to your customers and look far better than a hastily put together internal PowerPoint doc. Drop us a DM if you'd like to see how these can work for your business.

I think everyone who knows us or follows us will know how much we roll our eyes at the AI generated stuff that is everywhere. So as we’re all about keeping it real and being genuine in our business, we dug out some REAL 80’s pics.
I think I might have won the mullet competition. 😉😆 I wonder if this will get marked as AI. 🤔😆

We nearly missed this one! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣 5 years since Shaun officially joined NSD full time.
But of course we’ve been a husband and wife creative team for a lot longer than that. We first worked together around 2002 (I think!) freelancing together in a London creative agency. Over the years Shaun helped build up the business behind the scenes and supported me working during the evenings once the kids were tucked up in bed. When we realised web design and development needed to be part of the service, he stepped up to the challenge and we won best website design business earlier this year in the SBA awards.
Anyone who owns a small business knows how hard the journey can be (IYKYK) and as a family business it definitely has its challenges and financial instability. We never seem to stop learning and adapting to those challenges and it can be bloody exhausting but also rewarding. 🎢
So here’s to another year of working together! 🥳

Friday Showcase! This week we got to see some of our recent work for WIBN Essex I have been a member of the network for over 4 years, in Leigh on Sea and more recently in Rayleigh, so it was great to work with group franchisee Vicky on some new marketing material.

Vicky first asked if we could create a new advert for the event brochure for the popular Dine with Davina Event. After reviewing the WIBN brand guidelines, we noticed there was a whole colour palette that wasn't really being used. Our job is to always make material stand out, and the secondary colours definitely helped to lift the branding, giving it a more dynamic, modern feel.

We then developed the advert into a double-sided flyer. We're always looking for marketing ideas for our client, so we suggested a discount code to encourage visitors to try out a meeting and also for existing members to pass on flyers to other business owners. We then created a new roller banner design for Vicky for her future events.

Photography by Brand photography by Petra and features some of the fabulous women from the Leigh on Sea group.

This showcase shows how we can take an existing brand and move it forward without losing the recognisable brand elements. Sometimes it's not always about starting again with your brand, it's about making better use of your existing brand. Get in touch if your brand could do with a lift!

Friday! Excited to feature this new website launch for Legacy Therapy today!

Louise approached us to create a more professional online presence for her therapy practice. While she already had a basic DIY website, it wasn’t really communicating how she works, what therapy involves or helping visitors feel a genuine connection with her.

As well as creating a more cohesive website design that fits with her existing logo, a big part of this project was guiding Louise through the content, structure and overall journey of the website. We worked closely with her to shape what information should be included, how it should flow and what potential clients may need to see or understand before reaching out.

We also discussed introducing new imagery of her therapy space and encouraged her to record a short video introduction to help visitors feel more comfortable and connected before taking that first step. We're hoping she shares the outtakes at some point on her socials 😆

The new website includes testimonials and a helpful FAQ section, all designed to create a calmer, clearer and more reassuring experience for the viewer.

The result is a website that not only looks professional but genuinely supports the client journey as well.

Our web design process is about far more than just how a website looks. We help businesses consider the full customer journey, creating websites that not only look professional but also genuinely connect with the viewer.

Not sure if your website is doing your business justice anymore? Get in touch, we’d love to chat and see how we can help.

Sometimes your branding doesn’t need a full overhaul, just a few considered changes to help it work harder. This week’s Friday Showcase features updated business cards and a subtle logo refinement for Brighter Future Therapy Practice

The original logo used light pink and green with very similar tonal values, which made the green difficult to distinguish and caused both colours to compete for attention. We advised against using the light pink as a background for the logo. To support the brand further, we introduced a circular graphic as a flexible secondary asset using the lighter colours. We also updated the ‘therapy practice’ text to a clean sans-serif font and replaced black with a dark blue from the existing palette. This creates a softer, more cohesive look, while making the secondary line easier to read and better balanced beneath the main name.

Using the new logo and circular asset, we created new, rounded corner business cards with a lovely soft laminated feel.

The result is a more confident, professional brand identity. Supported by a full set of colour specifications (not just hex values) to ensure consistency across both print and digital.

If your business logo could do with a refresh, or you’d value a second opinion, send us a DM and let's arrange a chat.

Have a great bank holiday weekend everyone!
