The Refurb Company

The Refurb Company The Refurb Company is a circular economy company dedicated to refurbishment services and supplies

21/05/2026

Right now, most refurbishers are paying £20–30 per cut file in either time or paying companies. You may use the cut file once or twice and never use again

Multiply that across a batch. Across a month. Across a year.

That's the maths problem we've just solved.

We've built a Design & Cut File Portal with 4,500+ files ready to go — and growing every week. Search the model you need, hit download, and the cut file lands straight in your software. Summa GO. Thrive. Roland VersaWorks. Mimaki for keyboard print files. No emails back and forth. No waiting on a designer. No £25 invoice for a file you needed yesterday.

On the subscription, you're looking at £1–3 per download depending on volume.

It covers cut files for Skinz, Screen Savers, and keyboard print files for Mimaki printers. Everything we use ourselves, now opened up.

90-second walkthrough below 👇

We're rolling this out to a small group first before opening it wider. If you run a refurb operation and this looks useful, drop a comment or DM me — I'll send over the access details and pricing tiers.

Genuinely curious to see who's interested. The economics speak for themselves, but I want to hear how it'd fit into your workflow.

👀 Here's something most of the industry hasn't noticed:

Laptop keyboards aren't black anymore.

Look closely at a modern Dell Latitude, an HP EliteBook, or most current-gen business machines. The keys are charcoal. Dark grey. A clear shade off from the pure black we've all been matching to for years. And it doesn't stop there — blues, light greys, and a whole palette of finishes are now coming off the OEM lines.

Our SticKeys are widely considered the best on the market. We could've sat on that. We didn't.

✨ We've developed a new base material that lets us colour-match the full modern range — charcoal, blue, light grey, and every other shade the major manufacturers are now shipping.

The photos show charcoal in action:
🟢 New SticKeys
🟡 Original keyboard
🔴 Traditional SticKeys

Look at how the new ones vanish into the original keys. The same is now true across the rest of the colour range.

✅ Same 3-year anti-peel, anti-fade guarantee
✅ Same price

🛍️ Both ranges are live now at therefurbcompany.com — traditional for the older fleet, new for everything modern. Use the right one for the job.

The bar moves. So do we. 🚀

New colours just landed from HP. And they look gorgeous.

We've just received the latest HP EliteBooks for design and development — and HP have made some bold moves. The silver is gone. In its place, a white pearlescent finish with a hint of silver that looks absolutely stunning. The keyboards have shifted from black to grey. And the blue range? A whole new shade of blue.

These are the most visually striking corporate laptops HP have produced in years.

The last time HP made a major colour change was the move from the 840 G3/G4 silver to white aluminium. That took me 18 months to develop the material and get the colour match right. This time? We'll have it done in weeks.

Because we make our own material. We do our own colour matching. Everything is designed, developed and manufactured right here at our Poole HQ. That's the difference. We don't wait for someone else to figure it out — we get the laptop on the desk and we get to work.

Corporate laptops are going multi-colour. More finishes, more variety, more complexity. And I love it. It's exactly the kind of challenge that gets us out of bed in the morning.

But for refurbishers it raises a question — who is going to support you when these devices start coming through in volume? Who has the materials ready? Who has the colour match done?

We will. From day one.

That's what we do. We stay ahead so our customers never fall behind. New colour? We're already on it. New model? We're already designing for it. Because if our customers do better, we do better.

From unsellable to Grade A. This is the moment it all comes together.

🎬 Video seven. The finale. Watch us apply the side skins, do the final review, and finish this HP x360 G8 transformation.

Seven videos. Every single step. Cleaning, palmrest, SticKeys™, base, feet, lid, and now the sides. Nothing skipped. Nothing hidden. The full process from a laptop nobody wanted to a device that looks and feels factory fresh.

The side skins are the finishing touch. The detail that ties the lid, base and palmrest together into one seamless result. Precision cut, colour matched, manufactured by us. When they go on, the refurbishment is complete — and invisible.

That's the standard. If you can tell it's been refurbished, it hasn't been refurbished well enough.

This series wasn't just about one laptop. It was about showing you that this is repeatable, scalable, and achievable in your own facility with our products and our training.

Every skin. Every SticKey. Every pot of colour matched paint. Designed, developed and manufactured right here in Poole.

If our customers do better, we do better. That's why we made this series.

The lid is the first impression. It has to be perfect.

🎬 Video six of our HP x360 G8 series — watch us apply the lid skin and paint the side edges as this laptop edges closer to Grade A.

Our lid skin is precision cut, perfectly colour matched by us, and covers the main body of the lid in minutes. For the side edges, our colour matched paint gives a seamless finish where a skin can't reach. Both developed together so there's no visible difference between the two.

Skin on the face. Paint on the edges. One flawless finish from every angle.

✅ No disassembly required
✅ Three-year warranty against peeling and fading
✅ Colour matched paint also available to purchase

This is video six of seven. One laptop. Unsellable to Grade A. Nearly there.

If our customers do better, we do better.

New feet. Small detail. Big difference.

🎬 Video five of our HP x360 G8 series — watch us fit new feet to this laptop as it goes from unsellable to Grade A.

It takes seconds. But when a customer picks up that laptop and it sits flat, feels solid, looks complete — that's the detail that separates good enough from Grade A.

Missing feet, worn feet, mismatched feet — they all scream refurbished. New feet say factory fresh. The small details matter because they make the big impression.

This is video five of seven. One laptop. Every step. Nothing held back.

If our customers do better, we do better.

The base skin. The one everyone thinks is the hardest. It is. But we've got a method that makes it simple.

🎬 Video four of our HP x360 G8 series is here — watch us apply a base skin and show you the exact technique we use to get a perfect result every single time.

Let's be upfront. The base is the trickiest skin to apply. More contours, more cutouts, more edges to work around. It's the one that puts people off trying. But that's exactly why we made this video.

The TRC method breaks it down step by step. Where to start, where to align, how to work around the vents and feet, how to smooth it down without creasing. Follow our method and you'll get it right first time. We've taught customers all over the world to do exactly that.

And just like every skin in our range — the base skin is precision cut to the exact dimensions of the x360 G8, perfectly colour matched by us, and manufactured right here in Poole. Every safety marking, every regulatory symbol, every detail recreated from the original. Pick it up and you wouldn't know it had been done. That's the standard.

Why base skins over paint?

✅ Paint on a base wears through — it's the most abused surface on any laptop
✅ A skin is faster to apply, more durable and more cost effective
✅ No disassembly required
✅ Perfect colour match with all original markings recreated
✅ Three-year warranty against peeling and fading — paint can't offer that

The trickiest skin to apply? Yes. Impossible? Not even close. Not when you've got the right materials and the right method.

We don't just sell products and leave you to figure it out. We train, we support, and we share everything we know. Because if our customers do better, we do better.

This is video four of seven. One laptop. Unsellable to Grade A. Nothing held back.

Need to change a keyboard from German to English? French to Spanish? Any language to any language? Takes minutes. No new keyboard required.

🎬 Video three of our HP x360 G8 series is here — watch us apply our patented SticKeys™ and see just how quick and easy a keyboard refurbishment and language conversion really is.

This is the one that changes everything when you're refurbishing at scale. You've got a batch of 200 laptops come in from Germany. Great spec, great condition, wrong language. Before SticKeys™ you're sourcing 200 replacement keyboards, paying for them, waiting for them, and fitting them. That's time, cost and a bottleneck you don't need.

With SticKeys™? Open the laptop. Apply the keys. Close the laptop. Done.

Every key is individually precision cut to the exact specification of the x360 G8, colour matched to the original keyboard, and backed by a three-year warranty against peeling and fading. They are patented. Nobody else makes them. Nobody else can do what they do.

Why SticKeys™ are the smartest move in your refurb process?

✅ Full language conversion in minutes with no disassembly
✅ No sourcing replacement keyboards — any language to any language
✅ Removes the single biggest bottleneck in international refurb batches
✅ Patented product — designed, developed and manufactured by us
✅ Three-year warranty on every set
✅ So simple any member of your team can apply them — no specialist training needed

Before any skin goes on, before any SticKeys™ are applied, before any paint touches the edges — it starts with the clean.

🎬 New series just launched — watch us take an HP x360 G8 from unsellable to Grade A across seven videos. This first episode covers the tools we use and the full cleaning process.

This laptop came in looking like it had no future. Scuffed, scratched, dirty, written off. Most people would strip it for parts or sell it at a loss. We see something different. We see a Grade A device waiting to happen.

But you don't jump straight to cosmetics. You start with the fundamentals.

In this video we walk you through every tool we use and why we use it. No mystery, no guesswork. Just the exact process our team follows every single time to get a device clean and ready for refurbishment.

Why does cleaning matter this much?

✅ Skins, SticKeys™ and paint all perform better on a properly prepped surface
✅ A clean device means better adhesion, better finish and a longer lasting result
✅ It sets the standard for everything that follows — cut corners here and it shows
✅ This is the foundation of a repeatable, scalable refurb process

Seven videos. One laptop. Every single step from start to finish.

We're not just showing you the end result. We're showing you the entire journey — because we want our customers to achieve the same Grade A finish we do, on every unit, at any scale.

If our customers do better, we do better.

I don't normally do this. But I felt I had to put this out there.

These images are from a keyboard print done by another company. I'm not going to name them. That's not what this is about. But they've been doing this since 2015, so there's no excuse for this level of work.

And I need to talk about the Caps Lock light. Because this one genuinely stopped me in my tracks.

They didn't just print over the LED. They actually printed a fake Caps Lock light indicator. In white. On the key. I have been in this industry a long time and I have never seen anything like it. We would never print over an LED — that's basic. But to then print a replacement light onto the key in white ink? That is a level of shoddy work that is hard to comprehend. That laptop now has a non-functioning Caps Lock indicator with a painted dot where the light should be. And someone thought that was acceptable.

But it doesn't stop there. Print done as a block across the keys and in between them. Ink over the TrackPoint. Old keyboard lettering showing through underneath. Misalignment across the board. A rough, glossy finish that looks and feels wrong the moment you touch it.

This keyboard was fitted into a laptop that went to Amazon Renewed. That means an end user — someone who has put their trust in a refurbished product — could have received this. Think about that for a second.

This is the kind of work that holds the entire refurbishment industry back.

We are going mainstream. Refurbished is no longer the budget compromise — it's becoming a genuine first choice for businesses and consumers. But that only works if the quality matches the promise. Every single device that goes out looking like this reinforces the old perception that refurbished means second rate.

Good enough is not good enough anymore.

If we want refurbished products to be taken seriously — and they should be — then every refurbisher needs to raise the bar. Less "that'll do" and more "is this something I'd be happy to receive myself?" That's the only way we overcome the preconceptions that still hold this industry back.

I'll be honest. If this is what the competition looks like, I'm not worried. But I'd rather the competition was excellent — because a rising standard lifts the whole industry, and that benefits all of us.

We've printed over 750,000 keyboards. We know what good looks like. And we know the damage that bad work does — not just to the company that did it, but to every refurbisher trying to build trust with the market.

Do better. The industry depends on it.
