The first official presentation Windows 95 was on August 24, 1995, at Microsoft's Redmond campus, hosted by Bill Gates and comedian Jay Leno. The launch was a grand, carnival-like event with thousands of attendees, a massive advertising campaign that included the Rolling Stones' "Start Me Up," and public displays like the Empire State Building lit up in Windows colors. It was a landmark event that marked the release of a new, more user-friendly operating system, which saw 1 million copies sold in its first four days.
