Spring is still struggling to, well, spring, but books continue to sell with recent sales to Mauritius, USA, Australia, Switzerland and South Africa, as well as throughout the UK, including Jersey and the Isle of Man. Spring is stuttering to a start and we've spent the morning packing books and getting them off to their new owners: Northern Ireland, Holland, the USA, and all over the UK. We've now got some 11,000 books listed online and continue to try and add more every day, including this choice selection just uploaded.

Fascinating piece of history which we will be uploading online shortly. Thomas Paine's 'Rights Of Man' is a major document in political and social history and we have an original American copy, published in New York in 1791, which has further signficant association: it was the personal copy of Montford Stokes (1762-1842), with his signature to the front cover, as well as a manuscript fragment, handwritten and initialed by Stokes, which is loosely inserted. Stokes was a United States Senator and the 25th Governor of North Carolina (1830-1832). In 1832 President Andrew Jackson named Stokes to head the Federal Indian Commission, a post he held until his death in 1842. Stokes was buried at the Fort Gibson Cemetary in Oklahoma. Unbound signatures as issued in overall fair condition with darkening and soiling, especially to cover title. A particularly scarce item with interesting association.

Haven't posted for a while. Things have been pretty busy and this is a big year for us with some significant birthdays and anniversaries to prepare for. Meanwhile, books continue to sell well and this financial year is shaping up to be an excellent one. We have tried to resist buying-in new stock and, instead, we have been sorting through the stock we already have - with a twenty foot shipping container so full that we can't get into it we are probably overdue a spring clean!
