What happened today?

Early this morning, the internet hiccupped.

A major backbone service provider Cloudflare which helps keep and running smoothly, experienced a serious disruption.

As a result, popular platforms like X (formerly Twitter), ChatGPT, Canva and others were intermittently unavailable for users around the world.

🧠 Why does this matter?

Imagine the internet as a big road system, and Cloudflare runs a major highway interchange.

When that interchange jams, traffic backs up—websites load slowly or not at all. Cloudflare supports roughly 20% of all websites.

📍 What caused it?

Here’s a simplified breakdown:

Cloudflare detected an “internal service degradation” early this morning (around 6:40 a.m.) that triggered widespread errors.

They say the trigger was a configuration file that grew too big — it exceeded expected size entries and crashed part of their traffic-handling software.

No malicious hack has been publicly identified — this appears to be a technical fault not an attack.

✅ Where are things now?

Cloudflare says the fix has been implemented and services are now “fully operational”. They continue to monitor for residual issues, so you might still see minor hiccups.

📌 What does this mean for professionals (and everyday users)?

For non-tech folks: If your favourite website or app seemed “down” today, this is likely why.

For : This is a strong reminder of the fragility of the internet’s backbone - even major providers can experience outages that ripple widely.

For IT teams: It underscores the importance of redundancy, failovers, and understanding the “shared infrastructure” risk: you might use a different provider, but if your service relies on a common underlying vendor who fails, you can still be impacted.

For everyone: It’s an opportunity to reflect on resilience — not just in IT, but in how we rely on digital services for everyday operations.

🔍 Take-away message

Even the giants of internet infrastructure are human (or at least, imperfect).

When a critical part of the highway goes down, it takes massive coordination to get traffic flowing again. Today’s incident reminds us that “the cloud” is not some magic untouchable force—it’s made of systems, software, and people, all of which can slip.

Hey everyone, just a quick but important heads-up.

We’ve just seen news of a huge data breach — over 16 billion passwords and login details have been leaked from platforms like Apple, Google, Facebook, GitHub, Telegram, and even some government services.
Yes, billion, with a B.

This isn’t recycled old data — most of it is new, fresh, and potentially dangerous. It was exposed just long enough for hackers to grab it, but not long enough for anyone to trace where it came from.

At Foresight I.T. Services, we’ve been keeping a close eye on this, and honestly, it’s a wake-up call for anyone who thinks strong passwords alone are enough to stay safe online.

If you're running a business — especially a small or medium-sized one — you need to take this seriously.

Here’s what we recommend (and what we’re doing ourselves):

Use a trusted password manager

Turn on multi-factor authentication wherever you can

Teach your team how to spot phishing emails and dodgy links

Update your cybersecurity policies
