Keeping our photos safe has become one of the most important jobs for our laptops and iPads. But the unfortunate truth is that our technology will break, probably once every 3 or 4 years - we don’t know exactly how or when, but we do know it will break! So how do we keep our pictures safe?

We take our pictures digitally (on our phones) and we store them and view them digitally too. While this had given us the freedom to keep huge numbers of photos, we now need to take care to store them safely.

We have all heard about “backing up” our files. “Backing up” just means that we make a copy (or ideally lots of copies) of them. This means that when our technology inevitably breaks, we can retrieve the photos - no drama!

The key thing is to make sure that we copy them onto a different “device”. So if they are stored on your phone, keep a copy them to your laptop. From the laptop copy them to a USB stick. Or we can copy them to iCloud or another similar place. There are loads of options, find the ones that suit you best!

If you need help backing them up, just call me. And I can guide you through the process, help you choose a method that will work for you, or do it with or for you.

"Is this secure?"
Hmm.. now that's a huge question! The problem is that no system is 100% "secure" - even the biggest banks and governments get "hacked" and broken into. But at the same time, we don't want to make it too easy for criminals to take our things (like our bank and credit card details or our important personal photographs). So actually "being secure" for most of us means finding a balance between things which are practical to use and do and which are low-cost, versus being more "secure".
There are lots of free and easy things we can do to make our data more secure. To find out whether you've got the right balance call me, or message me.

The pain of slow computers is one which we have all suffered at one time or another! Normally we say “oh it’s an old machine” or “it’s just modern technology”. But that’s really not true. In almost all cases there are simple (often free) fixes that will make an enormous difference. It’s all about getting the computer to do what you want it to do, and not what it thinks it should doing...

If your slow computer is causing you grief, give me a call and let’s get it resolved.

Just completed a little job for a lovely couple in Diggle. At first, they they were frustrated about getting photos from their phone to the Computer. After 45 minutes, not only were the photos all sorted, but they were happily using the photos to create Powerpoint slide shows. Just a little help goes a long way. 😀

My Mum / Dad / Mother-in Law ** really needs this for her phone / emails / Ipad **, but they're a dinosaur /nightmare / $%£@ #* !!!!.... You'd never be able to help them. (Delete as applicable)

Actually, that's exactly who I help! With an abundance of patience, plenty of experience and oodles of optimism, sometimes we all just need a gentle guiding hand and little bit of confidence.

For computer help to fix your problems at your own pace with no jargon, please call or message..

So Richard, what can you help me with?

The short answer is anything related to computers and technology in your home.

I can help you to speed up your computer (this is a really popular one!!). I can help you to see your emails on your phone or your Ipad or your Kindle. I can help you back-up your important photographs and documents. I can help you create a system for your Internet passwords (so that you know which one is which, and where to find them) - or help you to "recover" them if they have got lost.

We now have lots of bits of technology that just don't seem to want to work together. I can help bring them together, and help make them do what you want them to do!

The first question is always "what do you want to do with it?".. and we take it from there!

A bit about me.

I am a 45yr old Dad living in Uppermill.

I am very good at listening to people's issues with IT and helping them, in a way and at a pace that suits them. Sometimes, fixing IT issues is as much about guiding the person and building their confidence, as much as it is about the IT itself. Sometimes, gentle encouragement and having someone there to ask is the best solution.

That's why I set this up. It's that bit of help when you need it. No problem is too small and we should never be made to feel daft for asking the question.

I also happen to have the usual range of certificates and qualifications from Microsoft, CompTIA, ISC and others.

Hi. Richard's Really Relaxed Computer Help is about helping you to use your technology - iPads, Laptops, Phones, Zoom, Email. I'm here to help with questions like "Why isn't my email working the way it did before?", "How do I use Zoom", "What does this message on my screen mean?" or "Can I get emails on my phone?".

Friendly, jargon-free help, at your own pace. Just patient listening, help to fix the problem and, if you like, a little bit of training so that it doesn't happen again.

Either I can talk you through it over the phone, or I can pop round and fix the issue.
£15 for the first 45 minutes, £15 for each 45 minutes (or part thereof) after that.
