Well we did it Friday, and have raised so far over £3,000 whihc is amazing when we originally set out to raise £1,000.
We thought we would share some of the journey we had along the way, because we had a laugh and all those that put money in should also get to laugh at us.
The day started with Mario being driven into work by Luigi stopping at screwfix Nottingham to buy gloves...last minute thought as it was a bit cold. The store employees all had to come look obviously and have a laugh at James.
Then a wander around the offices on the estate so people could enjoy how stupid we looked, but then we were off.
Along the canal path, that soon turned into mud. James was busy looking at a sign and nearly went in, then Dan lagging behind complaining about the mud slipped and went within inches of a splash.
After this it was a little smoother until we hit a closed canal path and an angry farmer. So off across a field we start walking carrying the bikes, and through a bog, across the barbed wire fence and up a steep bank bikes on the backs.
We at this point thought maybe the roads would be better, so we set along our way, until we hit way too much traffic that all wanted to hang out the windows shouting Mario or Luigi to us.
From there we went through a park and because there was a skate park, obviuously Mario (james) decided to would be a great idea to try a drop in on a mountain bike dressed as Mario....
A bit further along Jonathan shouts up, Dan have you wet yourself? We hear some swearing, only to fing Dan has put some cans in his bag ready for our arrival, 1 had burst and filled his bag now soaking out...we thought he was joking when he said he was packing a beer for us all, we then knew he wasnt.
when we eventually got going again we followed a cycle park that turned into a building site surrounded by diggers we thought, maybe we should turn around and find another route, so back on ourselves again and an alternate route along the A38 found. This was, lets say interesting, wind from the lorries and the constant horn blows a tad disturbing.
From there we stopped at a services to look for a slightly better route and thought the lady in the petrol station was going to pull out a shotgun on us the way she was shouting at us to get off the phones.
James thought he was being clever and found a new route, but didnt tell us it involved some very steep hills, Dan was not amused. He used more swear words towrads James and google maps than we have ever heard, even saying if he caught James he was going kick him off his ******** bike. He even got over took by an elderly lady that he tried to bribe to push james off.
Unfortunately for us along this route were several schools and we happened to be passing them at kicking out time. They say pubs are bad on a friday night at kick out, try riding past a school dressed as Mario bro's surrounded by teenagers, the pub is tranquil...
By this time it was getting cold, we couldnt feel our bodies and our rider support managed to lose us due to James' wonderful sat nav, so we had to wait for them to locate us, eventually doing so by finding the queue of cars that James refused to let past on the single track roads saying he had as much right to be there as them....
After navigating the A38, M6 Toll junction we knew we were close, but it was getting dark. James' light fell off so we were a little worried he might not get arrested by the police, because he deserved to spend a night in the cells for taking us up those hills. From here the hills became more down than up, so speeding down them during rush hour avoiding stationary traffic became a game of who dares wins.
During this we had Dave ringing Dan every minute saying where are you we are waiting for you, but we finally get there, see the sign and cheer, only to be told wrong entrance, its around the corner up the hill. I think we all just felt like oing home, but off we trot up the final hill, to be met by Dave, Nurses, friends and family cheering and shouting us on and of course Jesse and his 2 friends. It was great they came to meet us despite the obvious concerns over doing so, we cannot thank them enough for coming down to us.
This along with all your wonderful donations made this journey worthwhile, and looking back now we had such a great laugh along the way. We met so many people who stopped for a photo, cheered us on and I dont think Ive hear MARIO shouted so much in 1 day in my entire life.
Thank you to everyone from the bottom of our hearts, hopefully you enjoyed some of our laughs and of course of you want to donate you still can.
James, Dan & Jonathan
