In this video, I talk about how you can make your website easier for AI to understand, while also creating a better experience for your visitors.

One of the biggest mistakes I see is websites being too vague.

It's not enough to simply say what services you offer.

Your website should explain:

๐Ÿ”ธ Exactly what you do
๐Ÿ”ธ Who you help
๐Ÿ”ธ How your service works
๐Ÿ”ธ What makes you different

The more specific you are, the easier it is for both search engines and AI platforms to understand whether your business is the right fit for someone's search.

I also recommend making it crystal clear what happens next.

If somebody lands on your website, they shouldn't have to wonder what to do.

Whether it's booking a consultation, requesting a quote or getting in touch, the next step should be obvious.

That's important for your visitors, but it's also useful for AI, which is increasingly answering follow-up questions about businesses and how their services work.

Another area that's making a comeback is FAQs.

For a while, many businesses moved away from FAQ pages because they thought people didn't want to read them.

But AI loves structured information.

A well-written FAQ page gives clear, concise answers that AI platforms can quickly understand and use when responding to users' questions.

Of course, none of this replaces good design.

When someone visits your website, they still need to quickly feel that you're trustworthy, professional and the right fit for them.

The best websites combine clear structure, useful content and a great user experience.

That's just as important for people as it is for AI.

When people search now, they're not always landing on a page of blue links. Google's AI Overviews, ChatGPT and other AI tools are pulling together answers and summarising businesses before anyone even clicks through to a website.

That doesn't make your website less important. If anything, it makes it more important that AI tools can actually understand what you do.

A few things make a real difference here:

๐Ÿ”ธ Clear, plain English descriptions of what you do and who you do it for
๐Ÿ”ธ Up to date service pages and pricing, so AI tools aren't quoting outdated information
๐Ÿ”ธ Proper headings and structure, not just nice looking blocks of text
๐Ÿ”ธ An FAQ section that answers the real questions people ask
๐Ÿ”ธ Consistent business details across your website, Google Business Profile and social channels

You don't need to chase every AI trend. A clear, well structured website gives you the best chance of being found and represented properly, however people are searching these days.

If you'd like a second opinion on how AI-ready your website actually is, I'm happy to take a look.

Things naturally slow down a bit for a lot of small businesses in August. School holidays, quieter phones, a bit more breathing room.

It's easy to see that as downtime. I'd argue it's actually a good window to get your website sorted before things pick up again in September.

A few jobs that are much easier to tackle now than in the middle of a busy patch:

๐Ÿ”ธ Updating photos, prices, and services so everything reflects where your business is now
๐Ÿ”ธ Fixing the small niggles you've been meaning to get to for months
๐Ÿ”ธ Reviewing your Google Business Profile to make sure it's accurate and up to date
๐Ÿ”ธ Checking your site properly on a phone, not just a desktop
๐Ÿ”ธ Making it easier for people to enquire, book, or get in touch in one or two clicks

None of this needs a full redesign. Sometimes it's just a case of tidying up what's already there.

In this video, I talk about one of the most effective ways to build trust through your website and it's something many businesses overlook.

It's called social proof.

People want reassurance that you've done this before and that you've delivered great results for other clients.

That's why I always recommend going beyond simply listing your services.

Instead, show people your work.

Case studies are one of the best ways to do that because they allow you to tell a story.

Share:

๐Ÿ”ธ The problem your client came to you with
๐Ÿ”ธ How you approached it
๐Ÿ”ธ Photos of the project or process
๐Ÿ”ธ The outcome you achieved
๐Ÿ”ธ The difference it made for your client

Not only does this help potential customers understand what you do, but it also demonstrates your experience and expertise.

It benefits everyone.

Your visitors gain confidence in your business.

Search engines gain more relevant content to index.

AI platforms have more detailed information to understand what your business does.

An active website that regularly showcases your work positions you as an expert in your field.

If you're looking for an easy place to start improving your website, start talking more about the work you've already done.

Your next customer wants proof that you can solve their problem.

Case studies are one of the best ways to provide it.

I speak to a lot of small business owners who post on social media in bursts. Loads of activity for a fortnight, then nothing for a month.

It's not that the posts themselves are bad. It's that there's no plan behind them, so the effort never really builds into anything.

A bit of structure makes a bigger difference than people expect:

๐Ÿ”ธ Deciding on two or three types of post you'll rotate through, so you're never starting from scratch
๐Ÿ”ธ Picking a realistic number of posts a week and sticking to it, rather than aiming high and giving up
๐Ÿ”ธ Batching content when you've got a spare hour, instead of scrambling on the day
๐Ÿ”ธ Actually looking at what your audience responds to, and doing more of that
๐Ÿ”ธ Linking back to your website so social media is bringing people somewhere, not just entertaining them

None of this needs to be complicated or take over your week. It just needs to be consistent.

If you'd like a hand putting a simple content plan together, I'm happy to talk it through.

Why "it looks fine on my phone" isn't the test anymore

Mobile-friendly used to be the bar. Now it's just the starting point.

People expect sites to load instantly, feel intuitive, and respond the moment they tap something. If a site feels clunky or slow, even slightly, people notice and they leave.

A few things worth checking on your own site:

๐Ÿ”ธ How long does it actually take to load on a phone with an average connection?
๐Ÿ”ธ Do buttons and forms respond immediately, or is there a lag?
๐Ÿ”ธ Is the important information visible without endless scrolling?
๐Ÿ”ธ Does it feel like it was designed for mobile, or just squeezed to fit?

Small frustrations add up. And on mobile, where most people are browsing, they cost you customers fast.

If you're not sure how your site actually performs on mobile, I'm happy to take a look and give you an honest answer.

In this video, I talk about what businesses should really be focusing on if they want their website to perform well in both traditional search engines and AI platforms.

There's a lot of discussion around AI optimisation at the moment, but the reality is that the fundamentals haven't changed.

A strong website still needs:

๐Ÿ”ธ Fast loading pages
๐Ÿ”ธ Modern technology
๐Ÿ”ธ High-quality design
๐Ÿ”ธ Content that builds trust with real people

Those foundations are just as important today as they've always been.

I also explain why it's better to create dedicated pages for each of your services rather than trying to squeeze everything onto one "Services" page.

For example, if you're a builder, having separate pages for kitchens, bathrooms, and extensions gives both search engines and potential customers a much clearer understanding of what you do.

The more relevant, high-quality content you have on your website, the better.

Adding:

๐Ÿ”ธ Individual service pages
๐Ÿ”ธ Case studies
๐Ÿ”ธ FAQs

helps build authority and gives both search engines and AI platforms more useful information to work with.

One area that's becoming increasingly valuable is FAQs.

Question-and-answer content is easy for both visitors and AI tools to understand, making it a great addition to almost any website.

I also recommend making the problems you solve immediately obvious on your homepage.

When visitors arrive on your website, they should quickly understand:

๐Ÿ”ธ Who you help
๐Ÿ”ธ What problems you solve
๐Ÿ”ธ Why they should choose you

Ultimately, many of the tactics being discussed for AI optimisation are simply good SEO practices that have worked for years.

Focus on creating a website that's useful, informative, and built around your customers, and you'll be putting your business in the best possible position for both search engines and AI.

Google doesn't send people to websites like it used to

More and more searches now get answered directly on the results page, before anyone even clicks through.

That's a big shift. It means simply "having a website" and hoping to rank isn't enough anymore.

What still gets you noticed:

๐Ÿ”ธ Clear, honest content that shows real expertise, not just generic filler
๐Ÿ”ธ A fast, mobile-first site that doesn't frustrate people who do click through
๐Ÿ”ธ An up to date Google Business Profile, especially for local searches
๐Ÿ”ธ Genuine trust signals, reviews, credentials, real photos of your work
๐Ÿ”ธ A website built to convert the visitors you do get, not just attract them

The businesses doing well in this new landscape aren't the ones with the flashiest sites. They're the ones being upfront, useful, and easy to verify.

I speak to a lot of small business owners who've built up a decent social media presence and wonder why they need a website on top of that.

It's a fair question. But here's the thing.

Social media platforms are rented space. You don't own your following, you don't control the algorithm, and the rules can change at any time.

A website is yours. It works for you around the clock, it shows up in Google, and it's where you get to present your business exactly the way you want.

There are things a website does that social media simply can't:

๐Ÿ”ธ Rank in Google and bring in people who've never heard of you
๐Ÿ”ธ Provide a professional space to showcase your services in detail
๐Ÿ”ธ Build credibility with a proper domain email address
๐Ÿ”ธ Capture enquiries and leads even when you're not online
๐Ÿ”ธ Give customers somewhere to land when they search for you by name

Social media and a website work brilliantly together. But one isn't a replacement for the other.

If you've been putting off getting a proper website sorted, let's have a chat.
