Small Business Chat: Be Your Own Leader With PR
Small Business Chat: Be Your Own Leader With PR
Last week we talked about the credibility of media relations and how itâs an effective and powerful tool to help you be your own leader.
Yet, the common barrier, speaking to small business owners and SMEs is that they donât have the money, resources, or time to invest in PR activity? Does that mean you canât be visible?
PR is often used as a strategic leadership tool, and in the final part of our mini-PR series â what else could you be doing to step up and show that youâre a credible voice?
Many great leaders have often incorporated public relations into their leadership style or philosophy. The following quote helps encapsulate and link the importance of a PR mindset.
âTrue leaders always practice 3 Râs: Respect for self, Respect for others, Responsibility for all their actionsâ â Unknown
- Respect for self â having a strong sense of purpose, mission, and identity and communicating this clearly (branding)
- Respect for others â understanding and communicating with all your âpublicsâ â not just those whoâll bring you fame.
- Responsibility for all their actions â ethics, integrity, transparency
What do you think represents a leader and how is that evident in their comms?
Weâre using this final PR chat in our Small Business Chat series to join the dots â showing you how there are many ways on your PR checklist to build your credibility and support your goals.
Join us as we continue our series to help business owners demystify PR and achieve great results for their business.

How To Measure PRâs Value
How To Measure PRâs Value.
Like everything in marketing, if you donât measure or analyse your results, how can you see where success lies?
PR is one of the hardest functions to measure. When dealing with relationships and reputation, how you do measure sentiment? When youâre dealing with an integrated marketing campaign how can you attribute success to one strand of marketing activity?
AVEs (Advertising Value Equivalent) used to evaluate PR success were the original vanity metric. Over-inflated calculations as to what a piece of coverage was worth.
The industry has evolved over the years and has been driving measurement of PR activity beyond the output (media coverage) with more focus on measuring outcomes (impact). If you're hiring a PR professional or agency, ensure you're working with someone who helps you measure your activity's impact, which is easier with today's metrics.
Despite this progress, other companies and organisations still insist on this out-dated metric. For clients to see the value of PR spend, itâs important that both sides of the coin â PRs and clients - push for better evaluation and reporting.
This week, weâll break down how to evaluate and measure your PR activity and review the value against your budget investment.
Join us as we continue our series to help business owners demystify PR and achieve great results for their business.
