Jumping on the logo archive trend. 📁✨

Six years of building brands at Finch. It is a long time to spend moving shapes around a screen, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.

We dug through the archives to pull out some of our favourite identities from the past few years. It’s been great to look back at the work we’ve done for businesses and campaigns across the UK.

We never start with a logo. 🎨

We recently worked with , a great setup that prints and ships gear for bands, to build their brand new look. But before we drew a single line, we got the whole team in a room to map out the strategy and tone of voice.

Once we had that true north, we started on the mood boards. We wanted the new brand to feel loud, bold, and full of energy. That meant thick text, squiggly lines that look like a musician’s raw draft, and real, unpolished photos that look like a fan snapped them right at the gig.

I'm beyond excited to share my latest project with you all! 🤘🏼 It’s been a labour of love, working with MerchyCart to craft a brand that truly resonates with the music community.

Over the past year, we've been on a mission to create something that speaks directly to the gigging musicians who pour their hearts out on stage. I’ve had an absolute blast diving into this project and getting to work along side the team.

Huge thanks to Lucy Mowatt at .marketing for bringing the vision to life with her incredible tone of voice. It’s a game-changer! Thanks to her, the whole project sounds as awesome as it looks.

I recently stumbled upon my very first logo design, and let's just say it's...not great. I was trying to simplify an academy's outdated branding, but it looks like I overcomplicated things. The text was a mess, the hierarchy was off, and it was way too long. If I were to redo it today, I'd focus on strategy first - understanding the academy’s values, sports, art, and more. Design is about creating a visual language that resonates with people and evolves with them. Has anyone else had a similar experience with early designs?

I’d probably approach it differently now. Cleaner fonts, a more compact layout, and removing unnecessary elements. But what really matters is building a strong foundation that connects with people. Not just making things look nice. It's interesting to look back and see how far I've come.

You probably don’t need a new logo. You need a better camera. 📸🛑

Here is the reality check I give startups at Finch Design Co: if 90% of your business happens on social media, your logo is just a tiny 50-pixel circle in the top corner of the screen.

Nobody is making a buying decision based on that tiny circle.

I will gladly design you a great identity, but if your budget is tight, don’t blow it all on a logo while posting blurry phone photos. Your actual branding is:
✨ Your photography
✨ Your video quality
✨ Your lighting & aesthetic
