Which Arianne do you need?

Some productions need a compact washlight, but others need something bigger. Or even bigger. Or bigger still.

Here’s a rough guide to finding the right Arianne for your rig.

Working in a smaller theatre or club where space is tight? Arianne 2 is the most compact fixture in the range.

Putting together a corporate show, house rig or touring package? Arianne 4 gives you more output while still keeping things relatively compact.

On a festival stage or larger touring show, where you need to cover more distance, Arianne 6 gives you the extra power to carry colour further across the rig.

And for arenas, large outdoor stages or positions further back, Arianne 12 gives you the highest output in the range when you need the wash to pack a serious punch.

All four are designed to work together and deliver serious impact, so you can scale up through the range easily.

Take a look at the full series and hear from our brand ambassador Ange.

The first time gaffer Wayne Shields used Robe lights on a film set was on Tomb Raider.

Working with cinematographer George Richmond, Wayne remembers being struck by just how much control he could get from such powerful fixtures.

In this clip from our recent interview, Wayne talks about a series of BMFLs rigged to a crane 80 ft in the air, cutting a 4 x 4 ft square of light on the ground that was fully dimmable and shapable.

Since then, as Wayne says, the technology “has come on leaps and bounds.”

It was brilliant to catch up with Wayne and hear how Robe movers, including the iForte LTX, have become part of his film rigs, giving him the output, colour and control he needs on fast-moving productions.

A huge thank you to Wayne for taking the time to share his stories with us.

Less time in prep means more time out on hire.

We know how tight turnarounds can get, especially when fixtures are coming back from one outdoor job and heading straight out to the next.

There's still the cleaning, checking and prep to get through, and the less time spent dealing with moisture and condensation, the better.

That's where Robe's IP65 fixtures come into their own. Built for outdoor use, they're designed to help keep water out, reducing one of the headaches of getting fixtures ready for the next job.

With Christmas trails, Winter Wonderlands and other outdoor productions coming up, have you got enough IP fixtures to cover what's in the calendar?

If not, talk to us about what you've got coming up. We've got IP65 fixtures ready to add to your fleet.

System of a Down were back on the road in Europe this summer, with Matt Arthur overseeing lighting for a stadium rig built around iForte, iForte LTX and iEsprite.

The original concept was created by Rob Sinclair, with Andre Petrus, Meg Sinclair, Daniel Richardson and Matt helping build the showfile.

Four automated 18-metre trusses each carried 18 iFortes, with additional iFortes on the stage deck, floor package and front truss for band lighting and effects.

Behind the 60 ft x 30 ft blow-through LED screen, 96 iEsprite LTLs were arranged in a 12 x 8 matrix, with enough output to punch through the screen and create everything from hard, high-impact looks to more fluid kinetic effects.

Nine iForte LTXs were controlled via RoboSpot for key lighting on the three front band members. For Matt, one of the biggest advantages was being able to programme colour changes, strobes and on/off cues rather than calling nine followspots throughout the show.

“Being able to pre-determine when follow spots change colour, turn on / off, strobe, etc is a massive leap forward… I can be super focused on the show and getting all those cues bang on, every night.”

Lighting Crew Chief Dan Arnold travelled with the production, joining Neg Earth’s Mark Cooper, Graham Feast, Martin Strods, James Butler, Chloe Boucher, George Pitt and Harry Smith for the European leg.

As Matt put it: “They were all fantastic!”

Less time in prep means more time out on hire.

When fixtures are coming back from one winter job and heading straight out on another, there isn’t much time for a long turnaround.

That’s where IP65 fixtures can make a real difference for rental companies. Less time dealing with moisture, condensation and maintenance means more time checking, prepping and getting fixtures back out on the next job.

With Christmas trails, Winter Wonderlands and outdoor events heading into prep, now is a good time to see whether you’ve got enough IP stock for what’s coming up.

Got a busy winter ahead? Tell us what’s on the schedule and we’ll help you find the right fixtures for the job.

Some good news from Robe UK’s Film & TV team.

We are now listed in the latest BAFTA Albert Suppliers Directory.

Sustainability is already an important consideration across film and television production - from the equipment specified to the suppliers brought onto a project. We can help you with your data collection and reporting. Robe designs and builds everything in Europe at our own vertically integrated factory complex in the Czech Republic, giving Robe full control over all quality and the provision of spare parts, extending product working lives for all users.

BAFTA Albert has also credited us in our listing for Innovation Solutions - a recognition of our transferable light engine technology – another way we help extend working life by embracing future LED development through upgrades to your existing fixture investment. Robe is reducing waste in manufacture by focusing on recycling through all stages of the production process. In addition, we generate a lot of our own electricity from 3000 solar panels mounted on our factory buildings.

Robe publishes Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for our products – empowering users to track the carbon and other environmental footprints of the Robe products they select, making life easy when reporting your own Scope 3 declarations.

Being listed on the BAFTA Albert Suppliers Directory gives productions an easy way to find Robe UK when making their choices, whether you’re working on a studio show, drama, feature film or live broadcast.

For Robe, it also reflects something bigger: continuing to develop and support lighting solutions that deliver what productions need creatively and technically, whilst being mindful of how our industry is meeting the sustainability challenge. How do you create convincing light for a place where there is no natural light at all?

When Chief Lighting Technician Cullum Ross worked on National Geographic’s Titanic: The Digital Resurrection, the team were recreating the wreck of the Titanic from an incredibly detailed LiDAR scan of the ocean floor.

To bring that underwater environment into the studio, they combined a custom-built LED volume using Unreal Engine with Robe moving lights.

“We used a lot of overlapping, rotating gobos and contra rotation,” Cullum explains. “We mapped a lot of those visuals through the lighting desk, through the lighting console, onto our moving lights.”

The beams, gobos and carefully controlled colour helped carry the environment beyond the screen and into the physical set. As the real ocean floor would be completely dark, they also gave the team a way to pick out particular areas of the wreck while still looking authentic.

“Of course, there’s no natural light because it’s so deep on the ocean floor. So, we used those beams to create areas of interest.”

A huge thank you to Cullum for giving us his time and talking us through the work behind such an unusual project. We loved hearing how the team brought an environment this difficult to imagine into the studio.

We're delighted to have partnered with the team at the National Opera House on this significant lighting upgrade, with the lighting system supplied through QLX, supporting new creative possibilities for the O'Reilly Theatre ahead of the 75th Wexford Festival Opera.

Projects like this are only possible through collaboration, and we're incredibly grateful to Phil, Colin, the team at QLX, and everyone across the House and Festival teams for their trust, partnership and support throughout the process. It has been a privilege to be involved.

With the Festival celebrating such an important milestone this year, it feels like a particularly special moment to see the new rig in place. We can't wait to see it come to life on stage and support the incredible productions and creative talent that make this venue so unique.

When fixtures are landing back from one job and heading straight out on another, there isn't time for a lengthy turnaround process.

That's why, for many rental companies, the conversation around IP65 goes beyond weather protection.

It's about keeping fixtures in the best condition, ready for the next job.

Less time dealing with moisture, condensation and maintenance. More time checking, prepping and getting fixtures back out to the next rig.

Built for outdoor use and designed with rental demands in mind, Robe's IP65 range helps keep downtime to a minimum during the busiest time of the year.

Less time in prep means more time out on hire.

Got a busy winter schedule ahead? Get in touch and tell us what's coming up. We'll help you find the right fixture for the job.
