🌿 A New Ayurvedic Wellbeing Pilot — Coming Soon

Cohesive Society CIC is planning an affordable pilot initiative offering complementary Ayurvedic wellbeing support to members of our community.

The proposed service may support people experiencing:

• Stress, anxiety and reduced mental wellbeing

• Joint pain and stiffness

• Spondylitis-related discomfort

• General aches and persistent physical uneasiness

We understand how ongoing discomfort can affect mobility, confidence, sleep and everyday quality of life. Our aim is to make culturally sensitive, holistic wellbeing support available at a minimal and affordable cost.

“Bengal to Northampton” is a community heritage project led by Cohesive Society CIC to discover, document and celebrate the history of the Bangladeshi community in Northampton. It will trace the journey from Bengal—particularly Sylhet—to Northampton, from the pioneering arrivals of the 1950s to the established and successful community of today.

The project will record the memories of first-generation migrants and their families: why they came, the journeys they made, where they first lived and the jobs through which they rebuilt their lives. It will explore their contribution to local industries such as British Timken, shoe factories, brickworks and the railways, as well as the growth of restaurants, shops, businesses, mosques and community organisations. It will also examine the hardships they faced—including family separation, poor housing, language barriers, racism and social isolation—and the resilience and solidarity that helped them overcome these challenges.

Through oral histories, video interviews, photography, podcasts, archival research and family collections, we will preserve stories that might otherwise be lost. The project will also celebrate the achievements of later generations in education, public service, business, healthcare, politics, culture and community leadership.

This heritage will be shared through a printed book, documentary, digital resources, public exhibitions, community events and school presentations, helping younger generations understand their roots while enabling the wider public to appreciate the Bangladeshi community’s lasting contribution to Northampton.

At its heart, “Bengal to Northampton” is about people, belonging and legacy. We warmly invite early settlers, descendants, volunteers and local residents to contribute memories, photographs, documents and objects. Together, we can ensure that this important chapter of Northampton’s history is preserved, honoured and passed on to future generations.
