When you have lived with your words for a long time, creating your own fresh perspective can be almost impossible.

That is part of what I provide.

When someone sends me their writing, I read what is actually on the page - not what I already know they intended to say.

I look at the spelling, grammar, punctuation, and consistency. But I also notice the places where a reader may pause, misunderstand something, or lose the thread.

I ask questions such as:

Does this still sound like you?

Will your reader understand what you mean?

Is the message as clear as it could be?

Have we kept your personality on the page?

I don't assume that every unusual choice is a mistake or that every sentence needs changing.

I take time to understand the purpose of the writing, the person it is intended for and the voice behind it.

My role is to help close the gap between what you meant to say and what your reader experiences - while protecting everything that makes the words yours.

That is never what careful proofreading should do.

You have a complete draft in front of you. The final paragraph is in place. You should feel relieved.

Instead, the questions begin.

Does it make sense?

Is it too long?

Does it still sound like me?

Have I missed something obvious?

That quiet doubt can make you mistrust decisions that felt completely natural while you were writing.

Recognition comes before refinement means not assuming that your words need to be pulled apart simply because you feel uncertain about them.
