šŸ—ļø UPDATE: Dust concerns at Queen Alexandra Road development

Over recent weeks, residents have been in touch with us to raise concerns about dust coming from the Queen Alexandra Road development site, particularly during the crushing of materials.

We’ve been working closely with Council officers to make sure these concerns are taken seriously and that everything possible is being done to minimise disruption to nearby homes.

Following a site visit by officers, the contractors were asked to increase their dust suppression measures, including bringing in an additional water bowser to dampen materials before crushing.

āœ… The good news is that these measures appear to be working, with a follow-up inspection finding that dust levels had significantly reduced.

We’re also pleased to hear that the demolition phase is coming to an end, with groundworks now getting underway.

We know that living next to a major development can be disruptive, and while some inconvenience is inevitable, residents should rightly expect that every effort is made to keep it to a minimum.

We’ll continue working with residents and Council officers to address any further concerns as the development progresses.

If you’re experiencing any issues, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

šŸ“‹ What a phenomenal response to our A192 Malvern Road roundabout survey!

We’ve already received hundreds of completed surveys, making this the biggest response we’ve ever had to a residents’ survey!

John is spending his Friday evening working through the mountain of responses, which John, Liam and Dave will pull together into a final report to present at a public meeting with residents. šŸ“š

What’s been particularly fantastic is that this has been a real community-led effort, with residents delivering surveys, collecting responses and popping them through John’s letterbox. šŸ‘

We’ve still got a few weeks to go, and we’ll also be extending the survey into Abbotts Way following considerable interest from residents there.

A huge thank you to everyone who’s helped, taken part or left such lovely comments about our work, as well as highlighting other issues that need attention.

We’re incredibly proud to represent such a fantastic community! ā¤ļø

Lovely to chat with residents on Brightman Road while out in Preston this afternoon. šŸ‘‹

Concerns included the condition of the roads and pavements, which I’ll report to the council and follow up.

Residents also raised ongoing antisocial behaviour and shoplifting in North Shields, with some feeling frightened to use the transport hub and square.

We’ll keep pressing for action so everyone feels safe in our town centre.

Thanks to everyone who stopped for a chat! šŸ™‚

šŸ‚ We’ve had a great afternoon doing a street surgery around Queen Alexandra Road West, Hazel Avenue and Belvedere.

Thank you to everybody who took the time to speak to us today. We’ve picked up lots of jobs and issues to report on your behalf, and we’ll be following these up with the Council. šŸ“

It was lovely to be out on such a beautiful autumn afternoon, chatting with residents while you were doing your autumn gardening , washing your cars and enjoying the sunshine. ā˜€ļø

Thanks for the warm welcome! 😊

šŸ” Street surgeries continue this weekend!

We’ve completed over 35 enquiries this week alone on behalf of local residents – from roads and pavements to litter, overgrown areas and other neighbourhood issues.

If you’ve had one of our cards through your door, simply pop it in your window and we’ll knock when we’re in your street.

If you haven’t had one yet, don’t worry – we’ll be in your street soon!

We’re out every week listening to residents, picking up local issues and doing our best to get them sorted. āœ…

Lots of road repair requests put in for Sandringham Gardens today šŸ›£ļø

The state of the road is a perfect example of why endless small patch-up jobs don’t work - and in some cases leave the road in an even worse condition.

We’ll keep pushing for action to fix our roads and pavements. After years of frozen spending on highways under Labour, the backlog has continued to grow.

Residents deserve better than sticking-plaster repairs. We need a proper plan to tackle the backlog and get our roads and pavements back up to scratch.

This space in Preston Village is looking a bit overgrown at the moment. Bushes are covering the seats and narrowing the path for cyclists, while weeds are growing across the pavement.

We’ve asked the council to cut back the bushes and clear the weeds - so hopefully this can become a really nice community space once again.

We’ll keep you updated when I hear back āœ…

🚧 Preston North Road resurfacing works

We’ve been told that resurfacing will begin on Thursday 1 October near the Morrisons entrance, as part of the highway works linked to the Story Homes development opposite Rake Lane Hospital.

The work is expected to take two shifts, with crews working between 6pm and midnight to reduce disruption.

Preston North Road will remain open, but four-way temporary traffic lights will be in place, so please allow extra time for your journey. Advance warning signs are due to go up this week.

The work will be carried out by the developer’s contractors and supervised by the council. We’ll share any changes to the arrangements as we hear them.

A big thank you to everyone who came along to our ward councillors’ coffee morning today. Together, we raised Ā£175 for Macmillan Cancer Support! šŸ’š

It was lovely to catch up with so many neighbours over a cuppa and a slice of cake. Thank you to everyone who baked, helped out or donated.

We’re grateful for your support of such an important cause. ā˜•šŸ°
