Vital Hike Differentiate, digitally.

As you may have seen, we have launched our new website. It's been over a year in the making! The team at Vital Hike have done an amazing job, including rebranding, logos, and a fab new booking system. After a wee hiccup with our data transfer, everything is working beautifully.
Try out the pod booking for your next break here!! It's a dream! https://arnpriorfarm.com/stay

I recently discovered the amazing artist Pilar Garcia de Leaniz, and after seeing her portraits and artwork, I knew her designs would look great on our new website. I asked if she would design our site map. Here she has plotted out all our pods, so you can visualise where everything is. And of course, using our lovely new colour pallette!

With 12,000 people having installed the new Walkhighlands app in the first 3 days from launch, it feels like time we should share a few thankyous!

- Firstly, big thanks to Fife-based digital gurus Vital Hike for all their hard work & perseverance with the app, especially Ross & Eddie.

- Thank you to the 50 or so folk who help test the app out on walks during our closed beta. You know who you are!

Although we think the app will be at its most popular for finding & doing lower level, local and family walks, it works in the mountains too - so:

- Thanks to Scottish Mountain Rescue for their advice & for providing the wording within the app on calling Mountain Rescue.

- Thanks to Mountaineering Scotland for allowing us to incorporate their excellent mobile phone nav safety advice infographic into both our install process & into the app itself.

If you haven't installed it yet - remember IT ISN'T AVAILABLE IN APP STORES - it can only be installed from our website as described:

If on Android, open CHROME and go to our website, go to the app page and install from there.

If on an iphone, open SAFARI and go to our website, go to the app page and install from there.

Working with Walkhighlands was an ideal partnership from the outset. Both companies share a passion for the outdoors, and the project itself was perfectly aligned with our expertise at Vital Hike, where we specialise in developing cutting-edge web solutions for a diverse range of clients, leveraging the latest in emerging technologies. Walkhighlands approached us to create a Progressive Web App (PWA), which enables users to download a single app from a website onto their mobile devices, without having to go through an app store. This approach eliminates the need to build and maintain separate versions for Android and Apple, resulting in significant cost savings. PWAs are virtually identical in terms of user experience to native apps available on app stores.

The objective of the Walkhighlands app was to provide users with the ability to download and track their routes on offline maps saved to their devices. This offline functionality is particularly useful in remote hiking locations where internet connectivity is unreliable. The decision to go with a Progressive Web App was an excellent choice and eliminates the need to deal with app store bureaucracy.

Who’s spotted our new look on the high street? 👀

We commissioned talented illustrator Lauren Morsley to create a new set of window vinyls based on the theme ‘digital landscape’. We are so pleased with the results! Make sure to check them out if you’re in the area. ⛰️

Special thanks to Arthur at Duncan Signs for applying them alongside our new sign.

Project spotlight: Watson Seeds 🌱

Earlier this year we worked with Watson’s Seeds to evolve their business online with a completely new, bespoke e-commerce platform.

Watson’s is a large agricultural supplier who have been distributing grass seed and forage across the UK for over 25 years. They needed a website that would help their customers work out the quantities of seed they needed to order ― in a way that involved complex calculations that wouldn’t be possible with an off-the-shelf website solution.

We developed a bespoke platform that enables customers to select different units of measurement (by weight or surface area) to ensure they understand exactly how much they need to order. They can also add optional extras as required, and refer to the extensive technical library to know more about Watson’s product range.

Another project launch! Hello, Flight Mode Method!

The Flight Mode Method app is a custom digital solution developed for Rachel Kay – who is on a mission to empower creatives and help dance artists build long and sustainable careers.

Rachel wanted to create a unique membership platform to connect with artists and share her extensive knowledge in the form of creative practices and workshops. Together we have created a digital learning hub and membership app that delivers a personalised experience to each of its members – whilst giving Rachel a place she can directly engage with her community.

We recently worked with the Scottish youth support charity includem to deliver their final report for the National Childhood Bereavement Project. ‘Growing Up Grieving’ documents the experiences of people with a lived experience of childhood bereavement, as well as those who have a role in supporting bereaved children and young people. It also includes several recommendations for change to the Scottish Government.

Project Lead, Denisha Killoh, said it was “a project driven by lived experience. A report centred around real journeys through grief.” Having worked with includem previously, we were keen to incorporate their personal approach to the design of the document, whilst amplifying the voices of the young people and carers who contributed to the project.

Project launch! Craigtoun Country Park

We are delighted to announce the launch of a new website & digital app for Craigtoun Country Park.

Based just outside St Andrews, Craigtoun offers a whole host of family attractions such as boating, crazy golf, tractor rides, and party venue hire – all with different booking requirements.

We created a web application that takes into account these varying needs: with a front-end website that enables visitors to book events, hire out venues and administer their memberships online – and a back-end web app that means staff can manage all event and ticket handling via one streamlined system.

Project: CSEAR

The Centre for Social and Environmental Research (CSEAR) is an international network of scholars dedicated to inspiring and supporting research into social and environmental accounting issues across the world.

CSEAR approached us with the goal of creating a new brand identity and website to showcase the organisation’s mission of Creating a Sustainable World through Accounting Research, Engagement and Education.

The result is a brand identity and website that is focused on bringing people together, connecting ideas, and building a community that aims to mobilise accounting scholarship to enable a more sustainable society.
