Why do professional services firms move to a managed IT service? For many organisations, it starts with the same challenges:
๐Ÿ”น Increasing cyber security risks
๐Ÿ”น Growing compliance requirements
๐Ÿ”น Limited internal IT resources
๐Ÿ”น The need for predictable costs and expert support
๐Ÿ”น Keeping systems secure, available and up to date

A managed service isn't just about fixing problems when they occur. It's about giving your business access to the skills, security and strategic guidance needed to support long-term growth.

That's exactly how our relationship with Clifford James Consultants has evolved.

What began as IT support has developed into a broader technology partnership, helping the business strengthen cyber security, achieve Cyber Essentials Plus certification and build a more resilient IT environment as its requirements have grown.

๐Ÿ”’ 5 Signs Itโ€™s Time to Refresh Your Firewall.
Firewalls arenโ€™t โ€œfit and forgetโ€ anymore. With AI-driven attacks, hybrid working and encrypted traffic becoming the norm, outdated firewalls quietly create blind spots, performance bottlenecks and compliance risks.

Here are 5 reasons businesses are updating their firewalls in 2026:

1๏ธโƒฃ Support hybrid workers securely
Modern firewalls deliver seamless VPN, ZTNA and identity-based access, essential for distributed teams.

2๏ธโƒฃ See inside encrypted traffic
Over 90% of malware now hides in HTTPS. Next-gen firewalls restore visibility without slowing you down.

3๏ธโƒฃ Handle inspection at speed
Newer appliances offer high-performance SSL inspection, threat intel, and AI-powered detection without crippling performance.

4๏ธโƒฃ Stay ahead with automated updates
Real-time threat feeds, automatic signatures and cloud-delivered intelligence keep protection current, not reactive.

5๏ธโƒฃ Centralise & simplify management
Unified dashboards cut admin time, reduce config drift and strengthen compliance across multiple sites.

For many organisations, escape door standards have historically been treated as a design detail. Specified once. Signed off. Rarely revisited. That approach is becoming increasingly difficult to justify.

While BS EN 179, BS EN 1125 and BS EN 13637 have existed for years, their adoption into NCP 109 has changed how organisations are expected to apply them in practice.

The conversation is no longer just about hardware. It's about life safety, compliance, documentation and demonstrable decision-making.

In our latest article, we explore what changed, where organisations may be exposed, and why escape door compliance is now firmly on the agenda for facilities, estates and security teams.

Slow networks. Intermittent connectivity issues. Wi-Fi dead spots. Unexplained system failures. Many organisations assume these problems are caused by software, devices or bandwidth limitations.

In reality, the issue often starts much lower down the technology stack.

As businesses invest in AI, cloud services, IP security, unified communications and smart building technologies, the demands being placed on network infrastructure continue to increase. Yet one of the most important elements is often overlooked: structured cabling.

A well-designed structured cabling system provides the foundation for reliable connectivity, network performance, cyber resilience and future scalability. Get it wrong, and even the best technology can struggle to perform.

In our latest article, we explore:

โœ” What structured cabling is
โœ” Why structured cabling is important
โœ” Common causes of cabling-related performance issues
โœ” Structured cabling standards and best practices
โœ” How to future-proof your network infrastructure

For many organisations, older door arrangements, legacy locking systems, or previous specifications may now require review. Also, if youโ€™re planning upgrades, refurbishments, or bringing new buildings or production areas online, itโ€™s important these align with current standards from the outset.

The session will cover:
โ€ข BS EN 179, BS EN 1125 & BS EN 13637 explained in practice
โ€ข Where access control systems commonly create compliance risk
โ€ข Fire doors vs escape doors: managing both requirements
โ€ข Common retrofit and refurbishment mistakes to avoid
โ€ข Key considerations for legacy systems and new projects
โ€ข Live Q&A with industry experts

Join Abloy UK's Commercial Director, Pat Jefferies, and Advantex's Steve Dobby for a practical session designed to help you understand your obligations, reduce risk, and improve confidence in your building compliance.

In an emergency, nobody gets asked when an escape door was installed. The question is whether it worked safely and compliantly when it mattered, and whether the organisation responsible can demonstrate that.

Thatโ€™s why many organisations are now taking a closer look at escape routes, access-controlled doors, and whether existing systems would stand up to scrutiny following an incident, evacuation, or investigation.

Because if systems fail in an emergency, the consequences can go far beyond compliance alone:
โ€ข Risks to occupant safety
โ€ข Potential enforcement action
โ€ข Liability exposure
โ€ข Insurance and legal implications

With updated NSI NCP 109 requirements now formally adopting BS EN 179, BS EN 1125 and BS EN 13637, the way escape doors are assessed in practice has changed.

Join Steve Dobby from Advantex and Pat Jefferies from Abloy UK next week for a practical webinar covering where common compliance risks exist, what organisations should now be reviewing, and how these requirements apply across existing buildings, upgrades, and new projects.

โš ๏ธ One of the biggest risks with escape door compliance is assuming existing systems are still compliant. Common issues weโ€™re now seeing include:
โ€ข Access-controlled doors restricting safe egress
โ€ข Incorrect hardware on escape routes
โ€ข Fire and escape door conflicts
โ€ข Legacy systems no longer meeting current expectations

Many of these issues only come to light during:
โ€ข Refurbishments
โ€ข System upgrades
โ€ข Compliance reviews
โ€ข Building handovers
โ€ข Or following incidents

In many cases, these systems were originally installed correctly for the time, but updated NSI NCP 109 requirements are now changing how theyโ€™re assessed in practice.

Thatโ€™s why many organisations are taking a fresh look at existing doors, access control systems, and upgrade plans.

Weโ€™ll be exploring these issues in more detail next week in our webinar with ABLOY UK.
