Woo Audio Hi-Fi Headphone Amp from a couple of weeks ago. Main complaint was: Buzzing and squealing.

As the main ground point was disconnected due to the threads being stripped on the transformers it's ever likely it buzzed ( See pic 3). These were re tapped and bigger pins fitted. Buzz gone! Onto the intermittent squealing(I love intermittent faults😠). This turned out to be the very expensive Japanese volume pot (45 quids worth) which had been badly retro fitted. Replaced with a similar, but quarter of the price Alps and all is good. This thing sounds absolutely wonderful....

Turbo Sound iNspire 2000 in from Staffs Sound and Light. Bad crackling noise on idle. It was just like someone messing with a crisp packet. It's as quiet as as a mouse now. Cracking piece of kit! 2k just this one column. It certainly gave my noisy student neighbours a run for their 😂

Ashdown Bass Mag 500. brought in a couple of days ago with a few complaints: Intermittent input pot, intermittent clean/grit blend pot (which mixes between the normal and valve pre amp stage). Non operational Bass, Mid and Treble control in the tone stack, but sliders controlling 110hz, 340hz, 1.3k Hz and 2.6k were fine. Sub Harmonic not working.

So, first to do was replace the input pot to give a constant signal. Scoped a signal through the tone stack and was surprised at what I found. Never in all these years have I ever found 3 pots in a tone stack all buggered, why?

So, new tone stuff fitted, we now have Bass, Mid n Treble and I'm pretty confident that Sub Harmonic will now work as it's fed from the tone stack. Emm, no, but shorting the legs of the pot springs the Sub into life. So, that's 4 buggered pots now. New Sub pot fitted on the bottom board at the same time as the clean/ grit pot and we're all good. There were a couple more problems on this amp both I think were responsible for the destruction of the tone stack. which have been solved. One of the 2 was one of the fans inop due to the screws on the power board coming loose where the fans connect. These amps generate massive heat and need the fan. Massive heat =melted solder

Something slightly different today. A Kewtech Pat Tester. Came in with a relay fault on boot up. There are 15 relays in this machine, so which one? It was that one in the pics🤣. The owner of this machine was told it was time to buy a new one. Really! I guess the same bloke would be relieving the owners wallet of about 12 hundred quid? All for a 20 quid relay, and a bit of labour. It wasn't easy getting into this thing, took me about 2 1/2 hours to strip and rebuild. But it's back up and running.

2000 k***s, screws and nuts later🤣, this mixer is back up and running. 24 hour turn around for a busy Karaoke DJ.

Before and After. Mixer repair for my good friend Chris Pool from Muso Tech. With no Schematic available, I traced a signal with the scope to the op amp in the first pic. If you look closely you can see a small hole where the op amp has blown. This wasn't noticeable to the naked eye.The second photo is at a different angle and the op on the right is the replaced part fitted. It's 5mm x 3mm
