Have you tried Windows Phone Link yet?

It can sometimes be quite a pain to easily copy text, files and photos between your phone and your computer.

Windows Phone Link allows you to easily copy and paste text and images between your phone and PC. Your phone notifications are synced and displayed on your computer. Additionally it allows for easy file sharing, photo sharing and remote viewing of your phone and apps.

Windows Phone Link works with Android phones and iPhones. To use Phone Link with an iPhone you require Windows 11.

Are you using multi-factor authentication (MFA)? If not you may wish to read on!

MFA means you need to verify your initial login with at least one other verification step. This greatly enhances your security for logging in to systems. MFA can block over 99.9 percent of account compromise attacks!

If unfortunately your password was compromised, perhaps not even through a fault of your own but by an online leak - the threat actor cannot login to your account without this extra verification step.

MFA can be added to many systems and services, for example LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Microsoft Windows, Google accounts, Apple accounts and many more.

Some examples of MFA methods:

- Authenticator apps
- Emails, SMSs or Calls
- Hardware Token key generators
- Hardware Security Keys

Having just a password, even if it is strong is not ideal in 2024!

Staying on the topic of Cyber Security Month, are you aware of Ransomware? In November 2022, a survey of companies in the United Kingdom found that the share of organisations having experienced ransomware attacks in the past year was a staggering 75%!

Ransomware is a type of malware that prevents you from accessing your device and the data stored on it, usually by encrypting your files and demanding a payment to potentially restore these files and systems. More recently, threat actors upload a copy of these files and threaten to release them publicly to force a payment.

What can you do to protect your organisation? Ensure you have well-configured and up-to-date systems. Staying aware and up-to-date with the latest malicious campaigns and exploits can certainly help.

Cyber Security - What protections does your organisation have against cyber threats?

It's time for another Quick tips with GoughTech! Today, we have a handy productivity tip.

Did you know about Windows 11's Snap Layout and Snap Assist features? You can use your mouse or keyboard to access these features. Here's how:

With your mouse:
1. In the window you would like to snap, hover over the Minimize or Maximize button to launch the layout box.

2. You can also Drag and drop an app window to the upper middle of your screen where you will see a bar appear from the top.

With your keyboard:
1. In the window you would like to snap, press the Windows Key + Z to launch the layout box.

2. Press and hold the Windows Key + Arrow to Snap the app you are on. You can keep changing positions of the snap using your keyboard arrows in the direction you would like.

Give it a try!

Windows 10 is limited to only the Snap Assist feature which is not quite as advance as the new Snap Layout found in Windows 11.

Did you know? Support for Windows 10 will end in October 2025! After this time there will be no further updates or security updates, however many are still using it! Quick tips with GoughTech!

Are you using a password manager? If not you might want to read on!

There are many password manager solutions such as Google's Password manager, Apple's Keychain, KeePass, LastPass and many others.

What do they do?
They make it easy for you to use long, complex, unique passwords across different sites and services, with no burden on you to remember them all!

Often these passwords are protected by biometrics such as fingerprint or Face ID or by a master password.

They can sync your passwords across all your devices, so you’ll have them with you whether you’re on your laptop, phone or tablet.

Some services also offer the ability to store other notes securely within these password managers.

Some of these solutions can also be centrally managed by a business.
