Appello Group

Appello Group We're focused on providing technology-enabled, integrated care and life safety services. These help

Appello started operations in the autumn of 2014 following the merger of CarelineUK Ltd, Cirrus Ltd and Appello Telehealth Ltd but our combined histories go back much further than that… Our journey of supporting housing, health and social care to provide patient and residents with better care dates back to 24th June 1988 when we took our first emergency call. With a team of just five employees we

were pioneers for emergency monitoring within the housing sector. Over the next decade our business grew considerably as did our team. The synergies between the three businesses and changing needs of our customers led to the merger in 2014. Now, working with 3 of the 4 largest housing associations and hundreds of other like-minded organisations we’re transforming the quality of life for older people. Together we now have over 300 employees, supporting over 400,000 people across the UK.

Regional analogue switch-offs are already happening, and telecare failure rates have reached 19%. With the 2027 deadline approaching, the biggest risk is no longer technical - it’s a logistical bottleneck.

While 66% of housing providers cite telecare as their top investment, nearly 59% have yet to complete the move.

By delaying action, organisations risk entering a severe sector-wide bottleneck – competing for specialised engineers and hardware stock.

Navigating the digital switchover requires clear planning rather than rushed migration to safeguard your residents against rushed installations.

Upgrading legacy telecare across multiple group living schemes rarely happens without minor hiccups along the way.

When ateb Group began upgrading their housing schemes to prepare for the digital switchover, the focus was not just on replacing old hardware. It was about keeping open lines of communication when technical challenges arose.

Here is how ateb and appello delivered a successful rollout:

➡️ Carried out direct consultations and product testing with residents prior to selection.
➡️ Delivered hands-on training so residents felt confident using Appello’s products
➡️ Utilised test modes and remote access via Appello HQ to streamline ongoing maintenance

A strong partnership makes all the difference during a complex digital upgrade.

What keeps your monitoring service running safely and ensures every emergency call is dealt with quickly and consistently?

The answer: procedures.

An absolutely crucial element of your service – but often hidden away behind the scenes.

Procedures cover every single aspect of how a telecare call will be handled, from the moment it connects right through to what happens after it's been dealt with. When someone presses their telecare alarm, what happens next depends entirely on the procedures your monitoring provider has in place.
➡️ Is it an emergency or a routine call?
➡️ Who is the best placed operator to handle the call?
➡️ What information can operators see about the person calling?
➡️ How can you track response times, call volumes and usage trends?
➡️ How can you ensure service continuity if a site is down?

Procedures deal with these key areas and more, helping you deliver a service that meets your customers' needs.

So, how much do you know about your monitoring provider’s procedures?

You can find out more in our latest blog post as we shine a spotlight on five essential procedures and what you should look out for.

Complex upgrades and high installation costs often hold housing providers back from preparing for the digital switchover.

It doesn't have to be that way.

Common Ground Estates upgraded their telecare system in-house using our SmartLife digital dispersed alarm.

SmartLife uses roaming SIM cards, providing instant, clear, and reliable digital connectivity even in properties without internet access.

When you commission a monitoring service as a local authority, you need to trust this will keep the people in your community safe and help you meet your duty of care.

That's where procedures come in. Often tucked away behind the scenes but absolutely crucial to the smooth running of your monitoring service.

That’s because procedures set out the rules for dealing with every aspect of a telecare call – from the moment it connects, to the information that's available to operators, to what happens when the call is over.

They ensure every emergency call is handled consistently and in line with both industry regulations and your own requirements.

While robust procedures are vital, you may not know what your monitoring provider has in place and whether these stand up to scrutiny.

That's why our latest blog post takes you through five essential procedures, so you know what to look for and the right questions to ask.

😕 Confused by digital telecare jargon? Let's demystify SCAIP and NOWIP.

These are the digital protocols (or languages) that allow your alarm equipment to safely talk to monitoring centres over the new All-IP network.

Choosing open, interoperable protocols instead of closed manufacturer systems prevents supplier lock-in and future-proofs your digital transition.

How long does an analogue to digital upgrade take? ⏱️

This is understandably a key question for many of our customers who want to be ready for the switchover deadline in January 2027.

The answer is – the timings will vary depending on the size and scope of your project. It could take anything from a few months to longer, impacted by:
🔸the number of properties and residents
🔸complexity of your systems
🔸how prepared you are before you begin

We're finding many housing providers are making use of A2D converters as part of their transition. These can be installed in a matter of weeks, so can be a helpful stepping stone on the way to a full upgrade.
