International E-Waste Day, held on 14 October, is a reminder that recycling a device which still works is not the best outcome available to it.

Much of the attention on the day falls on what can be recovered from end-of-life electronics, such as the copper, aluminium and precious metals in circuit boards. That recovery matters. Shredding equipment that remains in working order, however, discards the materials and energy already invested in making it and creates demand for a replacement, and equipment leaving a refresh programme is frequently retired because of the procurement cycle rather than the condition of the hardware.

SE Recycling assesses every item for recycled. Data-bearing equipment is securely wiped, serviceable laptops are passed to SE Remarketing for refurbishment, and equipment that cannot return to service is recycled, with nothing sent to landfill.

The outcome each device receives is therefore decided at assessment, before any processing begins.

A good day at the office today!🍕

We treated the team to freshly made pizza for lunch as a small thank you for all of the hard work going on across the group.

It was great to get everyone together for a quick break, good food and a catch-up away from desks and workshops.

We are pleased to share that the SER Group and its divisions are carbon neutral business for the third consecutive year.

Following a comprehensive assessment, our total greenhouse gas emissions for 01/01/2025 – 31/12/2025 were 186.45 tCO₂e. Over this three-year period, 507.76 tCO₂e has been measured and offset, reflecting a consistent approach to managing our environmental impact.

We continue to measure our emissions annually and offset our full footprint through verified global projects, including renewable energy, reforestation, and methane capture, ensuring a like-for-like environmental balance.

Sustainability remains central to our operations across all divisions, as we work to reduce emissions and deliver responsible, compliant solutions across the battery lifecycle and wider recycling activities.
