AI Awareness Day is this Thursday (4th June), and we've put together a free resource guide for our schools.

It's got everything you need to actually do something on the day, without spending hours searching for it yourself. There are live streams you can drop into across the school day, classroom activities and lesson starters for ages 3 to 18, resources for parents, and a full set of teacher guidance, including the DfE's own frameworks.

"We're probably fine." One of the common objections we hear when speaking to schools before an audit, but in the schools we audited recently, the average fail rate was 44%.

In almost every case, the school's own assessment of its cyber security was more optimistic than the audit revealed.

Of course, this isn't about finding fault. Schools are doing their best with limited resources and competing priorities, but guesswork and optimism aren't a defence strategy.

The DfE Cyber Security Standard has a 2030 deadline, and the RPA has four conditions schools must evidence to claim on cyber cover ("probably fine" isn't one of them).

We recently published 'Behind the Firewall', a report based on real data from schools we audited as part of the DfE's Cyber Security Standard pilot programme.

44% of all checks failed, the average school had 40 critical gaps, and not one school passed everything. But the more important finding was that in every school we audited, leadership had no clear picture of how exposed they actually were.

The gaps weren't a surprise to us, but they were a surprise to them, and that's what a Dataspire ONE Secure audit changes.
