AVimmerse founder Keith Myers will be speaking at The Moor Club in Stockport about the Warrington Castle Project and how research, community involvement and digital storytelling are helping people reconnect with the town’s medieval past.

We’ve recently completed a new heritage film exploring St Peter’s Church and St Patrick’s Chapel at Heysham, one of the most remarkable historic landscapes on the Lancashire coast.

The film moves from the rock-cut graves and ruined chapel on Heysham Head into the continuing life of St Peter’s Church, bringing together archaeology, historic objects, landscape, drone footage, original music and contributions from people who know the site well.

Among the stories explored are the medieval grave slabs, the changing character of the church through later centuries, and the extraordinary Viking-age Hogback stone preserved inside St Peter’s.

For us, the project has also been an opportunity to explore how film and digital storytelling can help audiences connect with historic churches not simply as monuments, but as places shaped by centuries of people, belief and memory.

In 2024, we were in Bradford preparing to speak to more than 100 pupils about immersive technology, a collaboration with the National Science and Media Museum

Since then, that work has increasingly brought together immersive technology, education and heritage.

At the National Science and Media Museum, students 3D scanned museum objects and used them to create a virtual museum.

And last week, working with Levels Whitehaven, college students with no previous Blender experience created their own 3D mining objects for the Haig Pit project.

What we particularly enjoyed was seeing the learning journey: starting with the fundamentals of 3D modelling and, within a few days, applying those skills to real objects with a connection to local industrial heritage.

It’s been interesting to see these strands of our work increasingly coming together — digital skills, immersive storytelling and helping people engage with heritage through making.

Looking forward to developing more work in this space.

🎮🎬 Summer Club places are now open at LEVELS Whitehaven!

Do you know a young person aged 10–18 in Cumbria who enjoys gaming, filmmaking, storytelling or creative technology?

This summer, LEVELS is running hands-on creative clubs where young people can learn new skills, meet others and make something they can be proud of.

Activities include:

🎥 Creating an immersive 360° film inspired by a local heritage site
🎙️ Learning about filming, storytelling, narration and post-production
🎮 Designing a game from the ground up
🖨️ Bringing ideas to life through 3D printing

These are brilliant opportunities for young people who are curious about games, film, digital creativity and future careers in the creative industries.

The clubs take place at:
