The reason why storing old mobile tech (laptops, phones, tablets) in the long term is risky is that lithium-ion batteries like to swell and explode. My recommendation is that if don't have a very good reason to keep old tech around, dispose of it safely.

Some demonstrations of what Li-ion batteries can do:

Phone malware (usually in the form of the user being inundated with adverts and scammy messaging, making it extremely difficult to actually use the phone) seems to be on the uptick lately. I can help with this.

The landline should be back up now....

- edit - it looks like there are still teething issues. If you're having problems ringing the landline, my mobile number is 07831 210127.

Well! My landline is going to be down for somewhat longer apparently.

My mobile number is 07831 210127, should you need to ring me.

My landline is down at the moment, allegedly it will be back on before the end of today!

There's been an uptick in people falling for e-mail scams, most notably from "M!CROSOFT" (note the exclamation mark, rather like the old tell-tale sign of scam e-mails being bad spelling).

Most scam/phishing e-mails are trying to provoke you into reacting in a panic, but they could easily present as something innocuous like "click here to view your bill online".

Please remember that I'm happy for customers to contact me to run a potentially scam communication by me and asking for an opinion (which I don't typically charge for), because prevention is better than a cure :)

Personally I don't click on any links or attachments in any e-mail from any organisation unless I've got a good reason to expect an e-mail from them on that subject at that moment (e.g. a solicitor saying on the phone that they're going to send me a document, and then I receive it), and if say a company that I have an account with lets me know that my latest bill is available online, then I just open up a web browser (e.g. Microsoft Edge / Google Chrome / Mozilla Firefox / Safari) and go to that website myself rather than clicking on the link provided in the e-mail.

Call now to connect with business.

People are losing access to online accounts (e.g. their e-mail) because of a combination of not having a reliable record of their passwords and having out-of-date recovery methods set up on their account (e.g. they changed mobile number but didn't update online accounts with the new phone number).

Please be careful if you're thinking of changing your mobile number or abandoning some older / unused e-mail address.

Most of the desktop PCs I build are for people with fairly average needs, though some unusual requests come along from time to time, like a business file server with 2x 4TB Solid State Drives (SSDs) in a mirrored configuration (so if one drive fails, the other immediately takes over), or a gaming PC build with a Ryzen 7600 processor, 32GB RAM and a Radeon RX 7600 16GB graphics card. Whatever my customers need, basically! My service also includes installation in your home/business, migration of your personal data, etc.

If you're using an e-mail account that is provided by your ISP, e.g. you're with BT for broadband and you have a btinternet/btopenworld e-mail address, you might want to think about migrating over to a free, independent e-mail account such as gmail/outlook.com, *before* you get your e-mail account shut down (and maybe without any notice).

This is part of a trend that started maybe ten years ago whereby a lot of UK ISPs want to abandon their e-mail service (my guess is that it's seen as an unnecessary business expense which doesn't inherently generate profit), for example Freeserve / Wanadoo / Orange was a big one when they told customers that they were shutting down their e-mail service completely, BT went through a phase of requiring customers who had changed away from BT to pay monthly to keep their e-mail account alive, Talktalk has a similar policy (as well as some other bizarre, anti-customer decisions). BT Business has neutered btconnect e-mail addresses to the point of near-complete uselessness too.

BT and Plusnet are a merged company these days; Plusnet have taken every opportunity to shut down customers' plusnet e-mail accounts (for example, a customer of mine wanted to upgrade their existing broadband package with Plusnet and in turn had their e-mail account permanently shut down), BT just acted in a very similar manner to another of my customers.

If this is something you would like some assistance/advice, I'm here.
