Big upgrade completed! 🔥
I replaced the stock CPU cooler and case fans with a high-performance liquid CPU cooler featuring a radiator for better cooling and quieter operation. I also added an adjustable display screen to monitor temperatures, system stats, and customize the look of the build.
The PC now runs cooler, quieter, and looks even better. Definitely worth the upgrade! 💻❄️

🔧 Today’s job: Motherboard & PSU replacement 🔧

Today’s repair involved replacing a failed motherboard and power supply after the original PSU was damaged during a power outage.

This isn’t just a case of swapping a couple of parts. The process involved:
✅ Diagnosing the fault to confirm the failed components.
✅ Removing the existing motherboard, power supply, CPU cooler, RAM, storage and all cabling.
✅ Installing the new motherboard and PSU.
✅ Rebuilding the system with careful cable management.
✅ Reconnecting front panel headers, storage drives and peripherals.
✅ Updating the BIOS where required and checking all hardware is recognised.
✅ Running stability and functionality tests to ensure everything is working as it should.

Thankfully, the customer’s data was intact, and after a full rebuild and testing, the PC was back up and running.

Installed Windows to fix a black screen issue – Success!

I was troubleshooting a gaming PC that would power on but only display a black screen. The fans, RGB lighting, and GPU all powered up, but Windows wouldn’t load properly.

After working through the hardware checks, I performed a clean installation of Windows, installed all motherboard chipset drivers, GPU drivers, and Windows updates. The system is now booting normally and running without any display issues.

Today’s repair job involved recovering a laptop that had become unbootable.

First step was removing the SSD and connecting it to another machine to ensure the customer’s data was safe before carrying out any further work. The drive was protected with BitLocker, so I retrieved the recovery key from the user’s Microsoft account and successfully unlocked the volume.

Once the data was secured, I carried out a series of storage diagnostics, including SMART checks and file system integrity tests, to verify the health of the drive. After confirming the hardware was functioning correctly, I performed a clean installation of Windows, applied all updates, and installed the required drivers.

Following testing and validation, the system was returned to full working order with user data preserved and the machine running smoothly again.

A good reminder of the importance of BitLocker recovery keys and regular backups when troubleshooting Windows devices.

Today’s work involves having a work around for broadband that had been knocked out from the storm we had last last night

🚨 Home broadband is down. 🚨

The router has officially decided today is a day off, so I’m running everything through my iPhone hotspot just to stay online.

Nothing says “modern technology” quite like paying for home internet and then using your phone’s data instead. 😂
