Three details worth saving for your dream home basement 🎬⛳️🏋️

Below ground lies the most extraordinary room in the house. It is a private world where evenings unfold at your own pace and every moment feels entirely your own.

Begin with a cinema to rival the finest screening rooms, where the best seat is always yours. Step onto the tee at a favourite course, whatever the weather. Then end the day in a gym shaped around the way you live, the lighting softened and your music already playing.

Each space is designed, installed and refined so that it simply feels effortless from the moment you walk in.

Luxury is a TV at the end of your bed.

Not a screen fixed to the wall, dominating the room but a television that rises silently from the end of your bed at the touch of a button, then disappears without a trace when you’re done, meaning your bedroom stays a calm and uncluttered haven.

This is what we call Invisible Intelligence. Technology designed around the way you live, not the other way round. Lighting that dims as the screen rises, blinds that close on cue, sound that fills the room without a speaker in sight. Late films, lazy Sunday mornings, breakfast in bed with the news on. All of it effortless.

At Modus Vivendi, we design and install smart home and home cinema systems for some of the UK’s most beautiful homes.

The best technology is the kind you never have to think about.
Behind the joinery, within the ceiling, beneath the plaster: lighting that knows the hour, sound that fills the room without a speaker in sight, a screen that appears only when it’s wanted. Everything you’d expect from a beautifully designed space, and nothing you’d notice unless you knew where to look.

This is what we call Invisible Intelligence. Designed around the way you live, installed so discreetly it simply feels like it’s always, and effortlessly, been there.

Luxury is a front row no one else can book in a private home cinema, designed for the way you watch.

No queues for tickets and no sold-out screenings. Nobody tall sits in front of you, and nobody rustles a sweet wrapper through the quiet bits. Just the best seat in the house, saved for you every night.

Every Modus cinema room is bespoke, from design to installation. The picture is sized to the room, the sound is tuned to every seat, and the lighting falls to black with a single touch. All the technology disappears from view, so the only thing left is the film.

Some rooms quietly become the place everyone drifts towards without ever being asked.

A home cinema isn’t really about the screen or the sound, but about everything that happens in the room once the lights go down: children curled up beneath blankets after a lively debate over which film to watch, the hush that settles as the opening scene fills the wall, popcorn passed along the row and laughter arriving at exactly the same moment, followed by conversations that carry on long after the credits have rolled.

In a world that so often pulls everyone in different directions, it becomes the place your family chooses to gather, whether that’s a lazy Sunday matinee while the rain falls outside, a big match night with friends crowded around the screen, or a quiet film for two once the rest of the house has fallen still.

The right seating makes all the difference in your cinema room and it’s not just about comfort - it’s about creating a space that looks incredible and feels even better.

We work with premium manufacturers to offer bespoke luxury cinema seating that perfectly complements your vision, so whether you’re going for contemporary elegance or a classic aesthetic, we’ll help you create the ultimate viewing experience.

For a superior and luxury seating solution, we would recommend plumping for a premium and high quality leather with motorised reclining to enhance the look and comfort, and giving you more control over the seating positions to ensure you have maximum comfort when watching your favourite film, TV series or sporting event.

Some things in a well run home simply happen.

The morning light arrives exactly when you want it. The evening draws in softly at dusk. The glare is dealt with before you’ve even noticed it.

Automated blinds, shades and curtains are the extra pair of hands you never see, quietly taking care of the small daily tasks so your home feels effortless from the moment you wake until the moment you fall asleep.

Timed to the sunrise, responsive to the weather, or simply called upon with a word. This is Invisible Intelligence.

Walk in and the lights have already found their mood. The blinds ease down as the afternoon sun shifts. Your favourite playlist follows you from the kitchen to the terrace. Nobody touched a switch.

That’s the quiet magic behind this home.

created the interiors, and we brought the technology in around them, so every system sits behind the design rather than in front of it. Lighting, shading, music and climate all answer to one system, while keeps the heating and cooling out of sight.

We’ve spent more than 20 years at the forefront of smart home design, and in that time one thing hasn’t changed: the cleverest technology is the kind you forget is there. You simply notice that the house always seems to know what you need.
