⚠️ WordPress users on HostMaria Shared Cloud Hosting: please do NOT use WP Reset database snapshots.
We recently investigated a serious case where WP Reset had quietly created tens of thousands of duplicate MySQL tables inside live WordPress databases.
The websites still worked — but behind the scenes:
Database A:
1.53 GB → 27.41 MB
Database B:
3.28 GB → 34.14 MB
Database C:
7.16 GB → 42.09 MB
Across just 3 databases, we removed 34,100 unnecessary MySQL tables.
The cause? WP Reset was repeatedly creating complete database snapshots before plugin updates, deactivations and other routine WordPress changes.
A WordPress site with ~100 tables can produce another ~100 tables every time a snapshot is created.
25 snapshots × ~40 MB = ~1 GB.
And the maximum permitted size of a single MySQL database on our Shared Cloud Hosting platform is 1 GB / 1024 MB.
Thousands of unnecessary tables can also make database administration, backups, restores, migrations and other operations significantly heavier — and in this case the websites became noticeably faster after cleanup.
HostMaria customers already have Timeline Backups, including nightly database snapshots with up to 60 days of database retention.
Your production database should contain production data — not hundreds of historical copies of itself.
We have published a detailed technical guide explaining:
✅ how WP Reset snapshots work
✅ how to detect them
✅ how to measure the damage
✅ how to safely clean an affected database
