Very well done team!
Another pleasurable watch this morning for the Rebels. After a sluggish start to the season we seem to have found our stride and geld as a team. There is no easy game in the MYSL and today proved to be no exception.
After a pretty even 5 minutes into the game we began to stamp our authority on the game. Winning our personal battles we began to mount pressure. We carved the first meaningful chance of the game Tate was played through on goal and as he did last week he opened his body shaping to put the ball towards the far post but was denied by the cross bar. As we were on top we continued to create alot of half chances, our opponents with backs to the ropes kept us at bay with last ditch defending and a keeper who was fast off his line. Next was a penalty chance! George was fouled so took the initiative to step up and take it. Unfortunately George will be the first to admit that he didn't make a clean connection and the keeper was equal to his shot and was duly parried away from goal.
Our opponents carved up 1 chance on the counter. Fortunately Ted was off his line in a flash. The attacker with little time to think took his shot but Ted saved with his leg which propelled our own attack. 2 quick passes and we were in 1 on 1. Then in similar fashion George's shot was saved at the legs of the goal keeper.
0-0 at half time and the message was more of the same. We remained on top in the early stages of the 2nd half again create all the chances but not being clinical in the final 3rd. We then hit a bit of a lull with energy levels dropping and a bit of scrappy play with the occasional string of passes applying pressure in the final 3rd. With the game still in the balance we were hit again on the counter. A clearence from the defence put their offence through on goal down the right. The attacker launch a missile destined for the top corner which brought out the save of the season from Ted. It was like watching a top pro in the Premier League making a world class save 👏.
Then 2 minutes later we conceded a dubious penalty that looked outside the box. Ted who looked like he was in no mood to give away his clean sheet dives low to his left to tip the ball around the post. Which prompted scenes of celebrations from his team mates.
This proved to be the catalyst to move us up a gear and prompt our 2nd wind. After mounting pressure George on the edge of the box created himself a yard with a faint to his inside he took his shot quickly to find the back of the net for the games opener.
This broke the will of our opponents. With more mounting pressure Hugo was found in space, showing composure in not panicking when being closed down he'd spotted George in space at the back post and played him in. George poked home his 2nd and effectively killed the game with 5 mins to play.
George then turned provider he'd clearly shrugged off his disappointment of the missed penalty nearly netting his hattrick he had his shot cleared off the line only for Johnny side foot home the rebound who incidently showed why he's our captain after 2 great games this weekend! Game set and Match.
Again a great collective team performance from the boys in all areas.
MOTM- had to go to Ted for his 3 important saves, a clean sheet, commanded his area all match and made excellent decision making on when to go quick and we to slow the play down.
