It’s National Pasta Day tomorrow, and we thought we’d share our own version of cable spaghetti.

There’s always a point in an AV installation where the cables look a bit messy before getting tidied up and connected. It might not look like much now, but there’s a method to the madness.

Three years ago, we completed the installation and commissioning of the new sound and lighting systems at Spectrum Ice Rink. Working through the night for 2 weeks to get the system in place without disturbing a busy Ice schedule.

On the audio side, we removed six large speakers and a full rack of amplifiers, replacing them with 22 smaller FBT Audio Shadow Series speakers and six subs. The new system is powered and controlled by compact CloudPower amplifiers from Apex Audio significantly reducing the amount of equipment required.

For the lighting, we replaced 72x 1kW PAR cans with 48 high-powered LED Quad PARs and 12 LED Quad floods from Prolight. The new system is controlled through a rack-mounted lighting processor from ChamSys. Bringing the power consumption of the lighting system down massively, reducing the additional cooling required for the ice systems and lowering the overall running costs of the space whilst adding a whole load of colour options for the users.

A big upgrade to both systems, improving efficiency while delivering a flexible solution for the venue.

Last week we were working at St Chad’s, Bishop's Tachbrook, installing a new lighting system, replacing the old failing lights.

The installation included Exenia track lights, used for general downlighting of the whole church as well as uplighting the roofspace in the chancel and nave.

On the control side we used a MODE lighting control system, which is modular and means the system can be changed and expanded in the future where required. We also integrated some wireless switch positions from RF Solutions, for flexible control, with no cabling. For more in depth control, a MODE 10 button control panel has also been installed.

A simple and flexible lighting solution, with wireless control, running at a fraction of the power consumption of the outgoing system.

This week we’ve been working alongside CES and Churches Conservation Trust at Sudbury Arts Centre on a new lighting project.

As with a lot of projects like this that we tackle, we are firstly removing the old light fitting and replacing with new LED lights.

The installation uses LED lighting from Basis Lighting with control being completely wireless using a Casambi system, meaning no new cable needs to be run, and all lights can be controlled wirelessly by the lights built in meshing control system.

We have been working close to home this week at Fleckney sports hall installing the first fix cabling.

We’ll be back in a few weeks to continue the installation, with the truss system and drapes next on the list.

A look back at an installation we completed down south this time last year, covering the audio, lighting and projection systems throughout the main church worship space.

The new digital audio system is based around KV2 Audio loudspeakers powered by Powersoft amplification and controlled through an Allen & Heath SQ mixer. 32 on stage inputs and 16 outputs allow for various sizes of band setups and outside events.

For projection, we installed a double-drop Sapphire projection screen with an Epson projector, providing a flexible solution for services, presentations and events, whilst remaining unseen when not in use.

The lighting system combines Exenia for general white house lighting alongside various DMX-controlled colour lighting in the chancel and aisles, all managed through an e:CUE processor.

A complete AV installation designed to be reliable, flexible and simple to operate.

Throwback to Summer 2022…

This was one of our favourite lighting projects, transforming a church in Notting Hill with a completely new lighting system.

The existing installation had reached the end of its life, with ageing domestic LED fittings and a wall full of individual switches making the system difficult to use and maintain.

We stripped everything out and started again, installing 28 tracks of DALI-controlled white lighting, DMX-controlled colour lighting to illuminate the walls, arches and ceiling, along with wireless battery uplighters to give the church even more flexibility for different events.

Everything was brought together under a single, easy-to-use control system, allowing the church to recall lighting scenes at the touch of a button while still giving them complete control when they need it.

The transformation was huge. Not only is the space brighter and far more energy efficient, but it’s now flexible enough to suit everything from regular services through to concerts, community events and special occasions.

Happy Birthday Dan!

Dan is one of our install team and has now been with us for several years. To be honest, we can't quite remember when he officially started... he sort of appeared on work experience one day and never really left!

Over the years he's grown into a key member of the team, working on everything from smaller installations right through to some of our largest and most technically demanding projects. He's always keen to learn, get stuck in, and take on whatever the next job throws at him.

Outside of work, you'll usually find Dan enjoying the outdoors, heading off camping, or running up a mountain for fun...

🎉 Happy Birthday to the man who started it all – ! 🎉

From starting Noiseboys back in 2009 to where we are today, Phill has been at the heart of everything we do.

These days you're more likely to find Phill in meetings, on the phone, or planning the next project than on site. He knows what a drill is... we just don't trust him with one. A Sharpie, on the other hand, is usually considered safe.

When he's not doing that, there's a fair chance he's sniffing out the office snacks or reminding everyone how unbearably hot the UK is... despite it somehow always being like this on his birthday.

Throwback to two years ago…

Our team were over in Oxford helping transform a room into a dedicated space for podcasts and lecture recording.

The first step was improving the acoustics, so we installed a number of acoustic panels to reduce reflections and create a much better sounding environment for speech recording.

Having installed plenty of GIK panels over the years, this was our first time using the hexagonal range. After a bit of measuring, tweaking, and making sure the spacing was just right, we were really pleased with how they finished off the room.

A relatively simple installation, but one that made a big difference to both the look of the space and the quality of the recordings.
