If a terrorist incident occurs at a venue, triggering the fire alarm may not always be the appropriate response. A blanket evacuation could put people in greater danger, while the situation may instead require people to shelter in place, move to another area or follow a lockdown procedure.

As venues review their arrangements for Martyn’s Law, emergency communication is worth considering alongside other security measures. This could include looking at how quickly instructions can reach different areas, whether staff, contractors and visitors can be contacted simultaneously, and whether communication extends to external queuing and approach areas.

It is also worth testing how these arrangements perform under pressure.

Regular exercises can help identify whether messages are clear, systems reach the intended areas and staff understand how to issue an alert.

For residential developments and refurbishment projects, existing door entry infrastructure can provide a route from a traditional system to a connected solution. One with HD video communication, smartphone access, remote door release and cloud based management.

A new 300+ space multi-storey car park at Mermaid Quay in Cardiff Bay required CCTV coverage across multiple levels, vehicle access points, pedestrian routes, stairwells and pay stations.

Working with Innovative Fire & Security and GOLDBECK Construction, we supplied a 128-channel network video recorder and 104 CCTV cameras, with images transmitted to the Mermaid Quay control room for remote monitoring and management.
The system was designed to provide clear site-wide visibility while giving operators rapid access to recorded footage when required.

The project involved close coordination from design and specification through to installation, with the system delivered with minimal disruption to the wider development.
