📞 Had an unexpected call offering you a job? Be careful if they ask you to move to WhatsApp.

We're seeing a worrying trend in reports submitted to NuisanceCalls.org.uk.

During September, reports of suspicious job-offer calls rose by 229% compared with August, with some callers encouraging people to continue the conversation on WhatsApp.

These calls can sound convincing, particularly if you're looking for work or hoping to earn a little extra money.

🚩 A few warning signs to look out for:

❌ An unexpected call offering you a job you haven't applied for.

❌ A caller asking you to move the conversation to WhatsApp.

❌ Promises of easy money for very little work.

❌ Requests for personal details or upfront payments.

Not every job offer made over the phone is suspicious, but it's always worth taking a moment to check who you're speaking to.

📞 Do you answer when your phone shows ‘Unknown’ or ‘No Caller ID’?

It can be difficult to know what to do. A withheld number could be an unwanted caller, but genuine calls from hospitals, healthcare services or other organisations can sometimes appear this way too.

If you’re unsure:

1️⃣ Let it ring out and see if they leave a message
2️⃣ If you answer, don’t give out personal or financial information just because the caller sounds genuine
3️⃣ If they claim to be from an organisation, you can end the call, find its official number yourself and call back

You shouldn’t have to choose between missing an important call and answering without knowing who’s there.
