An airport runs on dozens of operational systems simultaneously.

The problem almost nobody talks about out loud is that these systems were never designed to talk to each other.

Which means when a gate changes, not every system finds out at the same time. When a flight comes in early, the ground handler might be positioning for the wrong stand. When a slot slips, baggage is already moving.

That gap between systems — measured in seconds and minutes — is where delays are born.
