As Businesses look for ways to reduce their carbon footprint and make themselves more sustainable the circular economy is becoming more popular.
It's such an old idea that we probably berated our elderly relatives for. Remember those cupboards full of saved butter tubs, jam jars and flattened out tin foil at your Grandparents? Well it seems they knew the value of reducing, reusing, recycling and making things last as long as possible.
This idea is really gaining traction in the business community and it couldn't come at a better time. The World Business Forum reports that 50 million tons of electrical and electronic waste are dumped into the environment every year and this will rise to 120 million tons by 2050 if we don't get a grasp on it.
When companies implement the circular community for their IT equipment effectively they’re able to maximise their products life and really get value for money. Circular Economy can involve buying, selling, and donating used servers, PCs, and peripherals. It also can focus on refurbishing and repairing existing gear to eke out this longer lifespan.
In fact, “Re-use has the potential to be the most impactful sustainability trend in the data centre industry,” states Lucas Beran, principal analysis at Dell’Oro Group.
